it's a mystery
« on: October 20, 2010, 03:24:32 PM »
My street has no stray dogs roaming its length, yet the pavement is liberally decorated with dog poo . . .
Kalkan has packs of feral hounds yet the streets are clear - not one piece of poo.
How come?   ???

Apparently it's the ants, they eat it (I read this on EK so it must be true)

I have the same..i live in a private road..lined with grass verges that we who live up here keep cut,the same with the trees and bushes........but dogs get walked by owners up here who don't scoop the doggie poop...it's not the dogs fault it's the human who takes it out!!(I guess if i sprinkle Ants on it they would run away because it smells >:( )......it could however explain why Ants don't kiss!

alantj, I think I've read or heard the ants are the poo cleaners in hot countries. I'm fascinated by the ants in Kalkan, I've lain on a sunbed for hours watching them move items that are hundreds of times their body weight - generally when I've run out of books and magazines :)
BL if your road is private I think you could actually put signs up asking dog owners to collect their pets poo - or face the consequences (not sure by law how far you can go with that one >:D >:D )
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

1)An Ant can lift 20 times it's own weight!
2)in comparison in size if it was our size an Ant could outrun a racehorse.
3)An Ant brain contains 250,000 cells a human contains 10,000 million...therefore a colony of 40,000 ants working in unison equals a human brain

so with all that power and knowledge why would they eat dogpoo?

By my maths that makes 40 ant brains equal 1 human brain, that could explain a lot of things.

Ants are Omnivores..this means they can eat both meat and vegetable matter..when they find food they leave pheremones as a trail for other ants to find food...rather like some people who eat mcDonalds leave a trail of litter from the shop.....Ants also need sugar and water in the diet.........if you see a solitary ant he may have been ousted from the colony for eating dog poo ;D :D

(alan i have consulted my ANThology..it is 10,000 million which equates to 40,000 ants....all those birthdays to remember if you are ant?)
