From 1st December, for an unspecified period, ALL international flights leave from Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is closed. The signage re-directing traffic looks very long term.
There is a full security screening at the entrance to Terminal 2 but no liquid checks, just put drinks in your baggage and remove once baggage has been screened.
After check-in there are no security checks to get into the departure area. Baggage is screened to get to the gate where all the usual liquid checks are performed.
Duty free prices are similar to Dalaman but the shop is better stocked. Purchases are put in a sealed bag at the checkout to go through boarding gate security screening.
Food and drink are expensive with tea at 5.25 TL, a big draft Efes at 8.95 TL, a 0.5L bottle of water at 4 TL and a cheese sandwich at 9.25TL. On the upper level there is a Burger King, Sbarro and Popeye. Burgers start at approx 15 TL, slice of pizza from 9 TL and chicken burger meal deals are about 15 TL.
There is no wifi, not even a chargeable service.
The terminal is very clean throughout, including the toilets (which are free) and there is adequate if not ample seating.
So all in all a reasonable experience and, as you can take your own food and drinks into the terminal, it shouldn't be an expensive time.
Happy flying.
