Olive Tree Apartments
« on: August 04, 2010, 03:07:02 PM »
Hi All,

I've been recommending Kalkan to friends and colleagues, some have been this Summer and have loved it. One who just came back is already re-booking for next year!
My question is this. He stayed at the Olive Tree Apartments, which are near the Samira Deluxe. He said it was an easy walk to town, but always got a taxi back. The other colleague stayed at the Samira Deluxe and said the walk was too difficult.
We usually stay at the Kulube Hotel in Kalamar Bay and walk back each night, which we find OK (and it burns off some of the fabulous food and drink!)  ;)
Is the walk back to the Olive tree about the same? or much worse? It looks lovely and we'd like to give it a try.
Thanks.

Kefgirl, the walk back to Kalamar is, for the most part, fairly flat but the walk up to Samira DL is a bit of a hike. Depending on fitness levels, some people will struggle with the incline and others won't. Distance-wise there won't be much in it, but up to Samira DL is a lot harder work...the calves will take a hammering ;D ;D  Don't forget there's also the new road to negotiate in that journey ::)
Sorry don't know where the Olive Tree Apartments are in relation to Samira DL
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

We stayed at Samira DL last July and had a great time. But I have to say I couldn't do the steep walk back (basically unfit and it was a bit hot!! Hubby was ok even with his copd!) The Samira had a limited shuttle service at the time, but if it didn't correspond to the time we wanted to come back we got a taxi. I was ok going down to the village. I think the new road is making a bit of a difference to the length of the walk. The great things about being up there are the views and the breeze! Have a great time. Don't forget Taxis charge more after 12 midnight. :)

..and strictly speaking the shuttle bus is for Samira DL residents and it did spark a taxi war a couple of years ago when it was shuttling non-residents back and forth.
Anyway..keep checking on EK, another thread is talking about a ....wait for it....dolmus in Kalkan :o :o
Like Roy Hodgson as Liverpool FC manager...not something I thought I'd see in my lifetime :P

I did a reply to this yesterday and it's vanished!
I said thanks to both kalkan4eva and Rockykalamar.
(I also said I'd wave to you, k4eva at the Arsenal match next week!)

Yes, I'll be there next Sunday, Cathy...though why is a question I've asked of myself many times :-\
I'll look out for someone waving in the general direction of my seat ;D ;D
