Rubbish collection
« on: July 20, 2010, 11:51:25 AM »
We have a running problem with the rubbish collection.  They have not come to our part of Kiziltas in 12 days in spite of 4 phone calls and me stopping the rubbish truck in town to ask them to come to our area.  We have several rented villas in our area. The guests are subjected to seeing rubbish spread over the ground with cats, dogs, rats -- yes, RATS -- and cockroaches munching on it.

This is not only unhealthy, it is shameful and unsightly.  This morning I went to the Belediye to present a letter, written in Turkish.  The Mayor's secretary immediately called whoever is responsible.  We were again promised a pick-up this afternoon.  From now on I will go to the Belediye every 5th day that there is no collection.

Does any other area have this problem?

We did have this problem last year (Yildiz Sokak, Kalamar Bay), and we (British and Turkish owners) complained a number of times.  It has improved greatly.  In the past, the rubbish truck would not go down our street so one of the small collection vehicles would come down but only after a number of calls from owners.  Now, the main truck comes down regularly (at least it did in May and June when I was there) and the bins are more evenly spaced out along the road.  It seems that you need to organise neighbour owners and collectively lobby the Mayor's office.
