Hand luggage.
« on: June 24, 2010, 04:04:37 PM »
Hi all! Just a quick question about hand luggage. This year we're not bothering paying for extra baggage allowance and as our cases are practically up the the limit we're trying to put heavy items in the hand luggage so as to make the most of the 5kg. Are you allowed to pack hair straighteners and dryers in your hand luggage and if so do you have to remove them to be screened? Also if I pack my inhalers in my hand luggage do I need some proof e.g. prescription or GP letter or will it be OK as it's quite obvious what they are. Any advice would be great, tried ringing Thomas Cook many times so as to get it straight from the horses mouth, even hung on for half an hour the other day and ended up giving up. That's what you call quality service LOL!! Cheers. ;)

Cant help you regarding hair straighteners but my wife carries inhalers in her hand luggage and does not have a doctors letter or anything like that, we have been subject to spot checks several times and there has never been any questions asked, either in the UK or Turkey.

Check out the website for the airport you are leaving from. There will be advice on there for what you can and cannot take in hand luggage.
Have you checked whether your accommodation provides a hairdryer?

GHD's allowed in hand luggage (you good ladies will know what they are!)    Sachets of cat food NOT!  (For Kapsa)   Doh?     None of my cats have ever exploded, but I have had nasty experiences with aforementioned appliances!

Hi All,
Watch the 5 kg. allowance. Friend travelled yesterday with TC and was 2kg over. Was charged £50. My wife had to move the cheddar into her casewhich luckily underweight!
