:)  If you look at a recent article on KTLN you will see a picture of an ottoman viper crawling down the steps of a villa  - this is only a few weeks ago. Whilst these should be avoided I have a villa in Kiziltas and have been visiting Kalkan for many years, I have only seen 1 small snake in all that time and that was a tiny grass snake at a beach club in Kas a few weeks ago. I think you will be unlucky if you come across a snake during your stay.

Strangely enough I saw a poisonous snake today - more than capable of killing you or inflicting a lot of pain - while walking in Hampshire.

We have only seen one snake in 6 years of having a villa in kalkan. However, it was big black and very fast, but thankfully we were in a car when we saw it.

Watch out for the lethal Turkish Waiter trouser snake :o
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

Seriously - I have a dreadful phobia re s****s.  Whilst have not come across any in Kalkan, we did in Northern Cyprus, right across the front door of the villa (NO, not a draught excluder!) The pool man luckily was there and sorted it.
Is there a help line number in Kalkan to call, esp. if we get one inside the villa?
Or do we call the police?

Poor you! Must admit we saw loads of snakes when we stayed in  Cyprus a few years ago, I'm not that worried by them and just gave the nasty looking ones a wide berth. Dont think the Jandarma would be in any rush to come and shoo the beasties away, can only suggest you get the phone number of your pool man. We have small grandchildren so use the Turkish method of snake control by having a layer of sulpher spread around the boundry of our property, not sure if this actually works but I have never seen a snake around our garden.

maryjane - I too have a phobia about the nasty things, & I mean a serious one, so can sympathise with you all the way.  Todate have been lucky & not come across one in Kalkan in all the several years of going there (not to MY knowledge anyway).  However I am concerned with all the new building that they are now being disturbed & having to go somewhere, just hope its not near me. Can't even look at pictures etc of them.  Hope all goes well & they stay away from you.

I had a phobia of snakes too but went along to a local wildlife centre and even managed to have a large python draped around my neck at the end of the session. Beautiful creature and so soft and tactile :) HOWEVER...............would probably drop dead with fear if I ever met one in the wild :o
In very many years of visiting Kalkan have only ever see one snake and the poor thing was already dead ???

How interesting - I have also tried this at a s***e * park in Nairobi -they had to rescue the s***e, as it was in danger of being traumatised!  Do not get me wrong, I would not wish them ill, and do not like to see dead ones, BUT they have their life and I have mine, PLEASE let us not meet!

I've eaten cobra in Vietnam - anyone want to guess what it tasted like (once it has stopped moving)?
