Taking milk in hold luggage
« on: June 19, 2010, 01:51:08 AM »
Hi, I am aware of the rules around taking liquids in hand baggage but does anyone know if you can put milk in your suitcase??!!

We are arriving in the middle of the night and there is no welcome pack for us.  We were thinking of freezing milk (works perfectly-have tried it lots before!) packing it in an empty case, as we have loads of baggage allowance, and adding cereals and a loaf of frozen bread.  Theory being that when we arrive we can go straight to bed for a couple of hours and then will have something in for a breakfast to get us started.
Dont want to get arrested at Dalaman tho' for the sake of a pint of milk!!  Any advice greatly appreciated.

I have never done that myself, but friends of ours do this too as they always arrive after the supermarkets shut and they have young children too so its easier this way.  Whether or not its acceptable at Dalaman is another thing, but yesterday when departing from there people had all sorts of food and drink in their hand luggage and nothing was said at all, so unless you were randomly asked to open your hold luggage i cant see why you shouldnt do it?

You could get the transfer driver, if you have a private one rather than a bus, to detour into Akbel as there seems to be an all night shop there. On the left, just before the bakery. You can also nip in to the baker as he is taking the bread out around 05.30 -06.00.
There - over there, there are.            To - Going to
Their - belongs to them.                     Too - In addition, Also
They're - Short for they are.

Pedant! me?

Hi I thought  Dalaman on departure had become over strict not allowing anything in hand luggage as my son and daughter on different days, had water prior to check in confiscated leaving a 2 hour wait at the mercy of very expensive airport shops.
Understand 9/11 rules but in UK you can take drinks prior to check in and not exorbitant prices in departure lounges.

The liquid rule does still apply, but people were just going through without question. Yet someone asked for a plastic bag for their makeup and was given one straight away so the system is very erratic!
