How cold is the sea?
« on: April 13, 2010, 06:48:19 PM »
We're out in 5 weeks time, the earliest we've ever been to Kalkan and I'm just wondering how cold the sea is likely to be? We love Palm Beach Club, but the sea is cold there in August. I know they are clearing the town beach in preparation for the summer season at the moment, but how soon before people start swimming in the sea...in swimwear  :D

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

I have been in the sea in May at Club Patara but it was quite cold. Saying that because of the springs I always find the sea cold near there. Think i'll be washing in it in April  ;D

We are in Kalkan early May for the ninth time, and I have always had a swim in the sea on the boat trip and beach. REFRESHING is the best description. The trick is NOT to stop swimming !!. I agree the spring does make the beach water cooler, however it is great over at the Harbour Club.
Enjoy your hols

I have often been in May & find the swimming absolutely fine. It's warmer than it ever gets here on South coast of UK & I swim here from June to October. Just a question of getting used to it. Later in the year I find it too hot for proper swimming! (In Turkey, that is(,

...thanks for the replies. I can do REFRESHING (nice description Pembo!) just can't do arctic. Love to swim in the sea and will definitely be getting in in May. I don't do "proper swimming" though, Sally. I'll be the one trying to avoid getting my hair wet as I swim out to one of the platforms...it's quite a skill, you know!

We always swim in May from Club Patara. Bracing is how I would describe it! Just keep moving!

My grandchildren were swimming and snorkeling in the sea at Christmas and Easter.Kalamar is a bit warmer than Kalkan bay. We joined them and the water was fine. Even the swimming pools are warm enough to use .
