alarm's

Following a break in and the threat of opportunist burglaries I want to install an alarm but unsure of the best option.
The police recommended that they would prefer alarms with video's so any intruder can be filmed but this seems excessive. 
First thought of bring one over with me but Does anyone have any recommendations of who might be able to offer good advice? and idea on costing locally?

Maplins have a good choice of alarms for windows, doors plus fully fitted systems.
