Boat Hire Prices 2009
« on: May 02, 2009, 11:26:09 AM »
Does anybody know what the price will be this year for booking a day-long boat trip from the Kalkan harbour for 8 people (incl. lunch)

I have sone this previously but the last time (2006), the price had gone up significantly from the previous year.

Thanks

Jeremy

I too would also like some idea on prices for such a venture, albeit for 7 people, and also some pointers towards anyone in particular who does such trips from Kalkan. Am there from 17/8 to 31/8.

In my opinion, you cannot beat Mehmet''s boat, Hazal, it is well worth the trip just for his amazing food.  He is a jolly person and plays great music and gives wonderful service, like swimming out to the mudbath beach carrying a tray loaded with wine, glasses and cigarettes for you.  He is very amenable and will go wherever you like and we have often stayed out much later than 5.00 when most of the boats return to the harbour.  He doesn''t have very good English and so I should ring his brother Arif to book, his mobile number is 0(090)5355139514.  He may charge a little more than the other boats but it is well worth it for all that delicious food.  He charges 50 lira per capita plus drinks.

Ali (Anil) and Mehmet (Hazal) are both good to go out with for the day.  These are the two captains we always use.

There are many different boats in the harbour some very large and some very small. Some have had the masts removed to enable them to put a large roof or flat deck above the main deck while others are the more traditional gulet with masts although they nearly always just use the motor. The Yildiz 1 carries 6 and charges approx £100 for a private all day charter. The larger Yildiz 2 can hold up to 12 and has sunbeds for 12.They charge approx 30 lira or 350 lira for a charter. They provide lunch and afternoon tea with homemade cake. Falcon has a similar price.

I can recommend Yildiz 1 - Adem is a great host. We''ve hired it again for when we are there in July - for 6 people we''ve been quoted £100 - that includes lunch, afternoon tea and wine, beer and soft drinks. Can''t wait!
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Whatever you do don't go on the boat named Kalkan Prince. It is 40 Turkish lire per person, about £16. There is very little food, the hospitality is poor with a very angry captain and his equally angry helper. We were on a boat for 12 and there were 19 of us, including the captains 2 children.
There are plenty of good boats in the harbour like Mehmets, moby dick, Aliz or Falcon. Just avoid kalkan Prince.

We paid 35 TL per person for a marvellous boat trip with Yildiz 2 - fab food and scenery and the Caprain Osman so lovely - he spent ages helping the kids fish. We also hired Yildiz 1 for a day for just the 6 of us and it was brilliant too.

You would probably have to think about booking Ali and Anil, now for next season. They were fully booked this year preseason.
