Data charges in Turkey
« on: August 19, 2009, 10:18:52 AM »
Jim uses a mobile phone that accesses the net for picking up his emails.  Is this kind of connection expensive in Turkey?

Can anyone recommend from personal experience?

It can be and more than likely it will be. Phone companies like to charge a hell of a lot of money for very little data when abroad.

If he's got a phone with wifi he might be better using that somewhere, or an internet cafe - I'm sorry I can't provide you with any specific places but I'm sure someone else can help or if you search the forum you might find somewhere.

Hi Jimandsal, from personal experience make sure you turn your data roaming facility off! :o
the bill will be huge, even for texting the cost can be high, just keep all phone use to a minimum if possible ;)
I still run my buisness back home when in Kalkan but have found the internet cafe's to be extremly cheap so tend to use these. 8)
Our villa is based in Akbel so this is the one that I use, having said that I have seen on this forum a cafe stroke bar advertised that allows you to use their Wi Fi so have a search and am sure you will find one available. :)

Have a good un!

Quite a few restaurantsd have free Wi-Fi access and will give you their network key if you eat or drink in them.  We stay at Hotel Pirat and they have free Wi-Fi which I use for my e-mail and of course accessing EK. Data on mobile networks is extremely expensive.
Regards
Tyros

Look at the thread I started in Money and Finance called "Blackberry Bill", there's lots of useful info there.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thank you all for your comments and warnings  :o

I think Jim's phone has wifi, so that will probably be best but I'll read your post kalkan4ever.
