Kas Market
« on: August 05, 2009, 04:04:05 PM »
We've never been to the Friday market at Kas and was wondering where it is situated? If we decide to get the bus there do we need to get it from the bus station or down by PTT?
thanks

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

As you enter Kas it is on the left hand side of the road - you cannot miis it
You can either get the local dolmus from the otogar or KTT run a visit to the market and that bus leaves from opposite the taxi rank in the centre

Yes I think it is.  It may be a bit bigger, but it seems that most of the market traders do the rounds and travel all over our area, taking in all the market towns.

It's not bigger, but a bit different. Not so much tourist stuff, more fruit and veg and seems to cater more for the local residents. And also seems a bit cheaper.

We don't arrive till late on Thursday evening and thought it might be awkward to hire a car and get away early to the market, so we'd take the bus instead. Does anyone know what times the Kas buses are from the bus station? If we decided on KTT, would I need to book in advance? I don't want to be stuck all day in Kas would rather be able to get a bus back when we're done - which is usually within two hours and we do like to do the markets early.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks  :)

Buses to and from Kas run every half hour between 08.00 and 18.30. The bus will drop you right outside the market and will pick you up from the same place. Just hail a bus with a Kalkan sign on the front windscreen.

Price each way 5 lira per person

I've usually parked on the road right by the market, there's usually spaces along there where the garden plants shop is located, you shouldn't have any problems.
k4e - I've also taken the bus with no problems, v good service and lovely to sit back and enjoy the beautiful drive along the coastline. If you decide you want to go to some of the shops in Kas as well, you can pick up a bus from the bus car park instead of having to walk more. It's just up to the right as you come to the first junction going back out of town, there's loads of buses waiting there and they'll tell you which one is leaving first.
