Live Music
« on: June 07, 2009, 03:51:46 PM »
I have read several reviews stating that the majority of restaurants in Kalkan have live Jazz, is this true? Can anyone confirm?

??? ???  I dont know where you read that - but I would say it is definitely the minority of restaurants that have live jazz...!!  the nur hotel now has live music nights and the Sofra have live music evenings and some others as well (that momentarily escape my ever decreasing memory..!!)

Cheers!  :)

The Baharat has live Jazz every Thursday evening.  It also serves fab food and the guys that run it are lovely (Hassan and Meht).  They will make you feel very welcome.

Hi Shellage, The Korsan Fish Terrace has a lady singer and a very good guitarist on Tuesday evenings
(I think). The Sofra has a Classical guitarist, but cannot remember which night. Belgins Kitchen has a live music notice outside.   The Nur Hotel has live Jazz/Pop/Turkish music on Saturdays and Blues and Rock on Thursdays. If you can play a guitar, bass, keyboards or drums, Baris (pronounced Barish) the drummer and hotel owner will let you sit in on a couple of numbers, and if you can sing do some vocals.    It really is a great little music club, lots of fun and room for dancing too. (Watch out for the dancing barman)! It starts at around 10.pm both nights. We loved it.   Cheers, Allan.  8)

So my sources were fairly accurate about live music then, may not Jazz.  Many thanks for all the details all of you.  Allan, Baris sounds interesting, and in fact I do sing, so may well go along for what sounds like an ''open mic'' night!

LOL - still a minority of restaurants...when you consider there are about 80+ restaurants...it is certainly not the majority...!!!

Enjoy!  :D

It''s not an open mic night as such but if you ask Baris and his band really nicely they will let yu sit in on a number or two. Or three. Well, about six in my case, but I did ask REALLY nicely!! 8)

Well, er, no, not really Martyn, more like jumping up and down and throwing his arms in the air, but he was so happy and enthusiastic, so good on him!    And yes, it would be great if we could meet up for a jam some time. We are there the last week in October. Cheers, Allan.

Yes, they''re great lads, aren''t they? Good fun, good natured and nothing''s too much trouble for them - Baris has them well trained!

Sorry but we will miss you in October - we are next out in September. :( Maybe next year?

The bar/restaurant on the harbour (think it''s called Sandals) has live music too.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

I have to agree with Hils comments that the food at Baharat is FAB and that Hasan, Metin and all the other staff there are lovely. I would suggest that anyone wanting to attend their Jazz night on a Thursday book a table in advance because when we went 2 weeks ago it was full.

Thanks to all those who have given all this info.  We will be arriving this Sunday, 14th June and we are really looking forward to it.  Will seek out all the places mentioned for the live music and the food too!

Hi Kemal

Do you know if the music at Sandals is on any particular night?

Hi Shellage

Just seen Hidir -manager of Sandal- a couple of hours ago and he says the couple is no more singing at their restaurant. They were at the stage 3 times a week. He says they are bringing a solo guitarist or a small band soon and live performance will be once a week at the restaurant possible on saturdays.

Was this the same couple that used to be at Paprika twice a week (before it closed)?
