ADSL Costs
« on: May 15, 2009, 08:49:05 PM »
Hi,

Please could you let me know how much your ADSL costs. I have been given 2 quotes, one for 29 Lira a month and one for 49 Lira a month. Im not sure who the ISP is.

How much do you pay? Any pros / cons / pitfalls?

Thanks

Jon  :)

Hi Jon the price depends on the length of time that you use it

Have a look at http://adsl.turk.net/adsl.asp

Thanks for the link, I was quoted 49 Lira a month for "unlimited" with no connection fee
Does that seem about right?

Is there also phone line rental on top? I guess there is?!

Hi Jon,  The 29YTL per month charge is for a 4mb service.  That is perfectly adequate for most uses.  The 49YTL charge is , I believe, for a 10mb service.  As far as I know there is no charge for data volumes.  The ISP is TTNET which seems to be owned by Turk Telekom.

We''ve had the 4mb service for about a month now and it has been very reliable.  The only problem has been that once the ADSL service was activated we lost voice communications!!!  It took about a week but eventually Turk Telkom fixed it and now everything is fine.

The one issue to watch, assuming you don''t already have a telephone, is the cost of connecting you to the nearest junction box.  Our connection cost just over 200YTL but we know of people who are being quoted over 800YTL.  It''s seems to be mostly related to the length of cable needed.

Hope that helps.

Alan

Hi Jon - we have gone for the unlimited higher cost download - simply because we have a slingbox to watch UK tv across the internet and for example - when Wimbledon, football and the olympics were on - the TV was on a lot and it didnt take long to use our monthly download and then you get charged lots extra so it was worth it to pay more for unlimited download...!!

Something to consider - other than that - the 49ytl service for internet connection was adequate..!!

all supplied through Turk Telecom!

Cheers!

Thanks everyone,

So am I right in thinking that 49 Lira would be the total cost? Is there no need for line rental as in the UK, eg x amount per month for the phone line and then an additional charge for the ADSL?

Thanks again  :)

I''m confused.  4mb/10mb must be the data transfer speed over the internet otherwise half a dozen photos in an email would use up your limit.  We are able to watch streamed video quite happily on the 4mb service.

On your second point Jon, you have to pay for a telephone line in the same way as the UK.  There is a monthly charge but as we haven''t yet received our first bill not sure what it is.  I think it''s about 10YTL per month.  Does anyone know?

My landline is 14.25 a month but the adsl which is unlimited varies month by month. Sometimes 49 but  last two months 45.25 and 46.75. We pay the telephone direct debit but Deniz bank seem to be unable to do the adsl which we now pay at garanti. Just tell them the number they look on their screen and then tell us how much we have to pay. As posted earlier we did not have to pay a connection fee.
