Our alarm system, installed in 2002 by an Istanbul company, calls the monitoring service in Istanbul which then calls us, next our neighbors (who hear the alarm anyway) finally the Jandarm who don''''t usually come, especially if it goes off during the night.  Nevertheless, we think it is useful to have since it alerts the entire neighborhood and discourages real and potential thieves.  Just set it off occasionally for all to know your house is alarmed.
