Diving schools?
« on: April 16, 2009, 03:54:34 PM »
My family is looking forward to our visit to Kalkan in July.  Our fifteen year old son plans to spend the best part of a week with a diving school: he is not a beginner, but not particularly advanced.  I would really appreciate any advice on which diving school has the best reputation.  The diving around Kalkan looks great.

Is your Son PADI or equivalent qualified, if so to what level? Depending on his experience there are a couple of very good dive schools in Kalkan.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

I can personally recommend Dolphin Dive Centre based on their boat in the harbour. They have a good web site. They were the first to establish in Kalkan, over 15 years ago I think. Kemel is an excellent tutor and his operation up to full PADI standards.

As for the diving, well it''s so/so to be honest. It is dependant on time of year, water visibility etc as in most seas. If your son wants to make maybe a dozen different dives then there is plenty to see, beyond that it''s do the same dives again! There is one wreck, it''s in 3 pieces and 3 levels and as a novice (and because of his age) your son could only dive the first level at about 12 mtrs.

Having said all that, my adult son is coming this year for a holiday and we will dive together! I wouldn''t miss it.

I can also recommend Dolphin and kemal and Birgit.  My 15 year old son and I did our Padi courses last year - he is now qualified to dive to 18 metres....he loves it..I''m still getting used to it..!!!  ;D ;D

Many thanks for all your feedback: my son has a CMAS qualification (EU equivalent of PADI), gained on a week in Corsica last year.  I don''t know how deep that allows him to go.... I am sure that he will enjoy the Dolphin set-up.
