i went to local post office today(Fareham)and got 230TL for £102.34.......

If the rate is round 2.25-2.30 I dont think thats too bad.

we tend to buy currency as we get some spare cash..that way it doesn''t come as  to big a jolt on the finances..we take some TL to get us through the first few days but most of ours is taken out with nationwide flex account which always has given a favourable rate

I take about £100 in TL and the rest in stirling or use my card at the hole in the wall if I need any extra,
which is nearlly always !

Turkish Lira must be the only currency the £ has any chance against...2.30 isn''t too bad, given all that has happened to our economy over the past year. My BH was working in Spain last week and you don''t even get a full euro for a £ now - quite worrying. We just take enough lira for the first day or so, sterling for the markets (but will they want that this year  ) then ATM for everything else. There''s an HSBC ATM in Fethiye that dispenses sterling if you want it (as well as Lira and Euros) - we''ve used it when the bag shop man wanted sterling a couple of years ago. Useful to know.

We went to Spain for the weekend last week and couldn''t believe just how expensive it is.

Everywhere we went and everything we did, we compared it to Kalkan and the comparison wasn''t in Spains favour!

When does the NTL become a TL again i.e. when do the new banknotes come out and how long can NTLs be spent after that?

the new banknotes are already out and as I understand it -you have until the end of the year to use all your old (new) ones...

Can you ask for only new ones in your change and do the ATMs only dispense new ones or a mix? Always seem to bring a few home and dont want to be lumbered with old.
