Thought I would start a topic for owners outlining your best buy for your property or top tip for living in Kalkan.

My best buy was....... a tin of white paint and varnish - £3k less than patara prince wanted to paint my house! 



PS - burglar alarm, window locks etc are not going to be accepted as valid posts

Mine was our apartment in kalkan.

Hand made wooden furniture:
6 x double kitchen base units
4 x double kitchen wall units
1 x double wardrobe with cupboards over and shelving on side
2 x large 5 drawer chest of drawers
3 x 3 drawer bedside cabinets
1 x double bed
1 x bunk bed
7 x fly screens for windows
2 x fly screens for doors
I still have to pinch myself when I recall that the whole lot came to only £600

Best buy: Waterproof, colourfast sunbed cushion covers from Zeke''s place on Kalamar road.  We got through two sets of the fabric ones in three years, simply because they faded, got stained and looked terrible after only one season.

We had previously looked at the plasticised ones but thought they would stick to you in the heat - but after replacing yet another set of the fabric ones last year we finally succumbed and got the plasticised ones -  they don''t fade; stains wash off them and they just look ten times better. Oh, and they don''t stick to you in the heat, especially if you put a towel on them, which of course is what most people do anyway!

A replacement double glazed unit and a new lock for the front door for less than £20 for both - and they came out and measured the unit and glazed it into the frame - bargain!

I''m in glass and glazing and it was far cheaper than us!!

Alan, they were 40TL each but that was for whole cushions, not just the covers (we decided to keep the old cushions as spares).

Ibrahim, woodman on left at far end of YeÅŸilkoy as you go towards Patara. Biggish place, lays back from road just before it bends sharp right. Be warned, in 2001 he didn''t speak much English. If you have a picture of what you want, say from an Argos, Tesco and etc catalogue, he can pretty much duplicate it.
