Snow in Kalkan this morning

There is some consolation for all of you suffering foul weather in the UK. We have just opened our front door and there is a centimetre of snow in our Kalkan garden.

For the  past 12 hours we have experienced prolonged thunderstorms, hail and torrential rain. 

We are 300 metres above sea level and further up from us, snow is dusting the tops of the mountains.

The local weather forecast suggests that we have several days of this ahead. Time to curl up in front of the log fire with a good book.

Hi Lantana,

That 300m makes you 3degC colder than sea level, down here we got plenty of heavy rain and hail - but it was not quite cold enough (above +4degC) for snow. I''m looking forward to my next project (installing central heating, these buildings are not designed for winters.

You can say that again! absolutely not designed for winter.
Has anyone else experienced leaks and water coming into their homes, we''ve got towels all round the windows and by the back door to soak up the water. Fortunately we don''t own the property we''re staying in, God knows how I would begin to sort out these problems if we did own it!

For the first time it sounds like Kalkan is getting worse weather than Manchester!

there was a light dusting of snow on the highest hill overlooking kalkan this morning.

Driving near Kinik yesterday we had to pull into the shelter of a garage as hailstones the size of hazelnuts rained down on us and made the roads so icy that driving was impossible.

The hailstorm lasted about twenty minutes and was followed by torrential rain.

The temperature in Fethiye yesterday had fallen to 4 degrees.

According to the forecast, there is a lot more of this heading our way over the next few days
