New Bar
« on: September 02, 2008, 01:26:03 PM »
Just back from 4th anual holiday in Kalkan, lovely as usual.
Two new bars..
1st.... Chinar bar in the yalihan complex, owned and run by our good friend Tekin (tiger) and his family. A lovely bar with good music. Go for the evening play pool, sit and chill,  or have a meal, what ever you do it will be fab.
2nd.... Garden Bar, at the end of the middle road on the left. A lovely quiet bar run by a very friendly lady called Melek and her husband. They make you feel very welcome welcome and the prices are very reasonable.
Give them both a try :)

Cinar was nice when we were there - shame its not very busy.

Where is the middle road for the Garden bar?
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

Hi The easiest way to get to the new Garden Bar, is to walk past the Moonlight Bar And Sofra restaurant, passed the Istanbul eaterie and it is further along on the right.
Hope this is clearer. Enjoy.

Sorry Dawn, think the sun is getting to us. The directions we gave were to a new bar called Eden Garden Bar.
Don''t know if either of them are still open.

I was just about to mention a new bar I heard about, accessed via the stairs to the right of Yali bar as you face it or from the next little road up, so probably behind Mimik''s gift shop and Gironda

Hello Dawn, Hoca & MnM,

Where are these new bars & are they open ?  I''m confused.  Which doesn''t seem that unusual these days !

Actually seems like both are no more. Eden lounge, along the road from moonlight corner and past isos restaurant, closed about the time of last weeks rain, it sure looked muddy in there the next day (this is also the place behind gironda).
the other place, the garden bar, is on the site of the old avalon restaurant, so along side korsan fish terrace ans opp salt and pepper. melek the owner has returned to izmir for her daughters schooling and so they have closed for the summer.

I think it true that the bars are less busy this season than I have seen in previous years. Even moonlight is slow, or perhaps people have finally got fed up of rolling down the hill after falling off chairs on the slope! LOL. I think people are spending more time round their pools and on their balcony / terrace rather than spending money in the local bars. I also think that''s a shame because they may not survive to be around when we Brits are ready to return to them.

the cost of taxis will definitely be a factor in the downturn in business...
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Yes taxi fares will be a major factor in any downturn
Just come back from a week in Istanbul and a taxi from Sultanhamet to Esemler Otogar a journey in good traffic taking about 25 minutes cost 19 YTL and there all the taxis are new models
Got off the overnightbus in Kalkan and got a taxi to Kalamar - cost 13 YTL for a 5 minute ride in a wheezy old Tofas with no air con - the meter started at 3YTL and has increments of 40KRS so about every 100 metres it increases
Who do the drivers here think they are kidding when they say they are cheap

slower bar business could also be down to the fact it is hard to get a decent drink in some places. cheap spirits mixed with cheap tonic at 10 lira a throw are alot less tempting when you have some delicious import back at the house!
the advent of the restaurant bars has also affected business, they serve a decent drink with better music, in a nicer enviroment.
