Any suggestions gratefully received as we would like to go somewhere with some atmosphere.  Having been abandoned by our children, (hahaha), we would like some company as we could have stayed at home, sitting looking at each other.

Looking forward to hearing from you please.  ::)

Meet him half way and do what we''re doing.  Stay at home for Christmas and go to Kalkan for the New Year, problem solved!

I was there last Xmas and stayed to see in the new year for 2008. I was surprised to see how busy it was. It was fantastic, especially new year. The place to go on new year''s eve is definitely down to the harbour as all the restaurants open up. Aubergine was open and spilling out table and chairs onto the road. Trio and a few others along there were also open. The indoor fireplaces were all lit with log fires and for those that were sat outside fires had been in lit in makeshift containers i.e wheelbarrows! It was a great atmosphere and the fireworks were a terrific way to bring in the new year.

If you feel like spending Xmas there and want a few xmas decorations, then you needn''t worry about going without cos you can buy anything you want at the Carrefour supermarket in Fethiye. I borrowed a conifer tree in a pot from a friend and decorated that to the amazment of my son when he arrived on Xmas eve!

For any of you still undecided about going - I highly recommend it. Lots of bars and restaurants open, and smiling faces. Makes a lovely change from the harassed shopping frenzy we have in the UK!!

We were also there last year and had a lovely time.

No need to go all the way to Fethyie to get those decorations, they had them in the supermarkets in Kas.

Great atmosphere as already stated, everyone getting into the spirit of things without all the stress as here.  We did in fact enjoy our almost traditional Christmas meal in the evening having spent the day out & about, then got the fire going in the house, poured the wine & chilled. We did have really fantastic weather which of course was a bonus, but for anyone really wanting to try it - go for it - see Kalkan & surrounding areas at a different time of year & enjoy a Kalkan Christmas most relaxing.
