Christmas/New ~Year
« on: August 25, 2008, 08:28:33 PM »
Can anyone tell me how lively Kalkan is over Xmas/New Year period?  We''re looking to spend our first New Year in our apartment!!!  Also any idea on flights?  Only flight being advertised at the moment is an Onur Air flight.....just hoping Easyjet will fly to Dalaman over the winter period - flights not released until about Oct.

Hi Dawn
We too are flying with Thomas Cook on 22 December from Gatwick.  Haven''t been at Christmas before, so will be reading other postings with interest.

Thanks BevJam, need to fly out from one of the London airports though...... funny enough you''re ears must have been burning at the weekend, as my neighbour in Kalkan ~(jacki) was staying with me and she was the one who suggested the New Year trip....

Yes we were chatting about it when we were over there in July. I believe it''s really lively and am hoping to get some walking done while we''re there. Good luck with the flights

Hi Dawn,
If you go to page 4 of the Restaurant Section, there are a couple of threads about restaurants and what Kalkan is like out of season that maybe of interest.

Hi Jackie we''re out from the 29th to the 5th as well. Not much flexibility on dates that time of year. Well lets see if we can organise a walk somewhere ......but not new years eve or day, will be recovering from the revelling!!  See you there, with photos of the wedding no doubt, I''ll be boring for britain
Cheers

will be spending our 3rd christmas and new year this year. we are flying out with thomas cook on 22nd and returning with onour air on jan 3rd. spoke to easyjet in may and was advises that the winter timetable would be released in july/august so it does not look promising that they will be flying this winter.
christmas is just a normal day for the locals but they do celebrate new year with fireworks etc. we have seen the last two in at sofra, its lovely and cosy as it is shut in and they have a log fire burning.
the real plus of being out there at that time is that there are no queue''s at the supermarkets!

You will definitely enjoy Xmas and New Year here in Kalkan. We will be having our fourth one here, and each year seems to get busier. You may have to book into your favourite restaurant for Xmas lunch (if it''s open)
There will be walks at this time of year. Look forward to seeing you then.

Hi Dawn
We spent Christmas 2006 & new year into 2007...funnily enough when we purchased our apartment..we used the time to furnish it etc...with regards to atmosphere...as others have said, relavitvely quiet at Xmas but New Years is a celebration..as Ian, we spent 2996/7 new years eve in Sofras, it was f=great and have made some good friends from it...our photos are still in the reception to the restaurant...
There are a few places open...during the day it is "spring" like weather but we found it quite cold at night - it dropped quite a bit..thanks heaven we brought out duvet out (and our air conditioning had been fitted - and works as heating too!!)
do it..its great fun, we will be out not this year but next

Hi im flying out on the 27th on the onur air flight with a friend and we will be staying with my grandparents who have been going for the last couple of new years. They spend their new year at sophras but be careful of the stairs there as my nan once had a few and fell down the stairs there (oops!) Not sure where me and my friend will be spending ours yet. The prices of the flights are going up quickly so if your interested in going i would book asap. x
