water cooler
« on: August 12, 2008, 08:55:08 PM »
We are thinking of buying a water cooler for our apartment.  Has anyone got one? how much does it cost? is it economical? how to you go about getting refills?

Oh my God, I''m being helpful again. That''s 3 times today, I hope to get back to normal soon.

Water coolers available from any electrical shop, if not in stock they''ll get one for you very quickly. Refills you get the 19 litre ''big water'' from the supermarket.
As for economy, not really sure about that but, a Turkish friend has had one for a couple of years and uses it regularly for himself, wife and 2 children. I''m sure that if it wasn''t economical he would have sold it to me by now.

Jayne wouldn''t be without ours.  Cost around 100GBP from Adda Furnishings.  19 litre refills cost 4YTL each, though you need to buy the large bottle first of all, I think around 10/12 lira.  Always have ice cold water on tap therefore you''re inclined to drink more in the heat (good for you!) and no more stocking up with various sized bottles of water in the fridge, leaving more room for the efes and cankaya!

Very impressed by the quick response, thanks Charlie and Grumpygrampy.

Just a couple more questions and I''ll leave you in peace. How do you arrange the refill, can it be delivered?  How long does a refill last on average. Just need to find out how convenient it would be for our rental guests as well as us.

Pick up a refill at any of the supermarkets and yes they will deliver free with the rest of your shopping.  We have 2 bottles, one in use and the other one always sitting full when the one in use runs out.  The next time we''re at the supermarket we just return the empty and pick up another refill.  How long you get out of it depends on the number of people using it and how much they all drink!.  For 6 of us in the hottest months probably 2 - 2.5 days.  It does encourage you to drink lots as there''s no bother of having to go to the fridge all the time.  Really good for kids as they can help themselves.  All our guests have commented on the convenience of it. Only slightly off topic - Is it a big job to put an electric socket in?  We would love a water cooler but the only place it can fit in doesn''t have a socket nearby.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

Blue Lizard, how much do you tip him?

Thanks everyone for all the info, I think we''ll invest in one when we come out again in October.

Of course drinking really cold water when you are hot can lead to upset stomachs, better for you if it is at room temperature really.
Doing that helpful thing again, must be something about this site!

PS if you get one, don''t forget to regularly clean and sterilise it, would not like you or anyone to get a nasty bug.

Hi
What is this water drinking fad about? A 1 litre bottle lasts me all week in July, and that is for cleaning my teeth!
