Kisla to Kalkan
« on: August 10, 2008, 12:00:19 PM »
Dear All,

We''re arriving to stay in Kisla on 15th Aug for 2 weeks - What''s the best way to get to Kalkan - Have 17 & 19 yr old boys who will want to be out in the evenings.....- Is is straightforward to get taxis/ dolmuses back  - or is it walking up hill post Efes!

Any other tips welcome - 1st time in the area

Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary

We are at Club Patara which is just near Kisla. It''s a beautiful area with lovely views of Kalkan. We normally walk in when it''s not too hot and it takes about 20minutes, 30 max. I wouldn''t recommend walking back at night time though as it could be a bit dangerous as there is not a proper footpath. We get a taxi then and it costs about £5 one way. You could also get a water taxi from the beachclub into Kalkan.

I''m sure you''ll have a lovely time and your boys will love the bars in Kalkan and at this time of year there will be a lot of young people for them to socialise with.

Unfortunately Kisla is rather out on a limb. if you''re at club patara it''s only 20 to 30 mins walk into town, but you can add on 10 mins for anywhere else in Kisla and probably up another steep hill. It reaches 40.c
in the shade this time of year so you are definately into taxi territory. there is a thread about taxis and the prices, currently being discussed at the moment, they are quite expensive and this is quite an issue here at present, I think you''ll be paying more than £5 per journey, so best be prepared before you leave for your excursion into town. There are very few facilities in Kisla, shops and bars.
The one good thing about Kisla, is the boat taxi from the beach club to the town which is free, and runs daytime until c.6pm every day. Taxi prices go up considerably after 11 or 12 at night, it''s almost as cheap to get a room in the town as it is to get a taxi back to Kisla at night.
There are a couple of nice beach clubs over at Kisla so some days you won''t have to go into town.

We regularly visit a friend who lives in Kisla, just pass Club Patara. We always walk there and usually walk back. The friend we visit is in his 70''''s and he invariably walks into town although at night he does get a taxi back. There are beautiful views over the bay from there and we especial like to sit with a drink on his patio, watching the sunset.
Enjoy your holiday.

Kalcamp, why are your posts always so negative?!!!

Hi
I cannot see how Kisla is out on a limb, one could say the same for many areas in Kalkan?

Not everyone wants to be in the centre of things, especially on holiday. I have been over to Kisla plenty of times, and the walk into Kalkan is nice with beautiful views over Kalkan. There are nice beach clubs there, and you can easily get lunch, if you don''t want to relax around your won pool that is.

I am not sure why you have received such a negative post to your question Mary? I an sure you will all have a lovely holiday, and hope you return to Kalkan again another year.

It is perfectly walkable if you are reasonably fit, but I would strongly echo Mrs Enjoy Kalkan''s advice about NOT walking on the road after dark - bits of it are not well lit & no footpath - defintely worth the taxi ride back in the evening.

We are at Club Patara and we walk both ways every evening.  I know Kisla is slightly further and believe another hill is involved. As long as you are reasonably fit there is no problem. I would advise waiting until the sun has set/sunk behind the mountains before starting as this makes it a lot more bearable. On the way home as long as you are sensible and watch out for traffic it is not really a problem. There is a small dirt track along the edge of the road and we always keep to that.  Wouldn''t walk if feeling under the weather or slightly inebriated!! Otherwise it is fine.

My husband has tackled this trek both ways in the daytime. I can''t recommend this!! He is a very keen walker and it is not for the faint hearted!!!

No doubt you will make up your own mind when you arrive and do what you feel happiest with. One huge benefit is that we never put on any weight!!

Hi Mary, we have a villa in Kisla and often walk into town. Never has it ever taken us more than 30 mins and that''s a very slow walk, enjoyjing the spectacular scenery on the way.  As Joan has said, you get to see some fabulous sun sets, it''s very peaceful and also tends to have a lovely breeze, which you don''t get in town.  As far as places to eat in Kisla, you have Bob''s street cafe, the Fidanka Hotel, Kalkan beach club, and the wonderful Villa Mahal hotel, recently voted as having one of the best views in the world.  Taxi fares cost us between 10 - 14 lira.  My nephews managed to get a very good "after midnight" rate by using the same driver all the time.  We had no idea what Kisla was like before we bought our villa and are so glad we bought there and not elsewhere - you''ve made a good choice and you will love it!

the great thing about Kisla, Mary is you have the sun far longer than most of Kalkan...you will be able to sit out on your terrace, sunbathing until the sun slips behind the mountain. Villa Mahal is to die for and right on your doorstep, your views will be stunning and I''d give the walk a go - see what you make of it there and back on evening and you will know if it''s doable for you - everyone is different.

We are coming to Kalkan with our daughters (20 and 16) next year and have decided to stay right in the town so they will be able to walk back to our accomodation no problem. For two teenagers I''d say walk in and taxi back just to make sure they get back at a reasonable hour.

You will love Kisla, it''s gorgeous...and closer to Adam''s.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

The one good thing about Kisla, is the boat taxi from the beach club to the town which is free

Does this mean anyone can walk in use the free water taxi and not use the facilities of the club.  How many free water taxis are there in Kisla?

Many thanks

The new dolmus service covers the Kisla now, I believe. So this should be a boon for those staying there.

Thanks for reply, this sounds good except that ther service does not run between1330 and 16:20.

Can anyone can walk in use the free water taxi from Kisla, as suggested, and not use the facilities of the club.  How many free water taxis are there in Kisla?

The clubs expect you to at least buy a drink before you get on the boat, it's a bit cheaky otherwise as it is provided as a courtesy for customers.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought it would be a bit much to turn up  and get the boat especially as there will be up to 8 of us.  But as long as they don't mind and it's accepted practice to buy a drink and then use the boat, I will feel better doing this.

Hi there

Does anyone know if the dolmus service to Kisla is still running or was this only temporary for July/August?

Hi KislaBlue
The 11.00am dolmus has just left Kalamar, so still running at the moment. Hopefully it will run until the end of the season.
