Sunday Times Travel mag
« on: August 04, 2008, 02:17:49 PM »
Good article in next months ST Travel Mag on Turkey and some of the more inland places to stay.....paticularly Owlsland..... however and here I will quote: '' when someone mentions the touristic town of Kalkan, down below on the coast. .....A tumbleweed hush falls as P pauses. "Kalkan. Hmmmmm, to be honest, I never really go there any more."  You could reasonably ask P what she might have against a dose of Turkish Mediterranean air. But if you''ve seen Kalkan - only 20 years ago a pretty port of bobbing boats and outlying olive groves, now a hulking holiday town largely lost beneath a tidal wave of faux-Ottoman villa develoipments - you''ll sympathise''    etc etc...........ah well can''t win em all I suppose and I will admit each year I go I find the developments getting more and more intrusive but go I do....just hope that wonderful view from the sea to Kalkan will retain some green for years to come. As I only go to Kalkan once a year as I have other ''fave'' places do all these new villas/apts actually sell? A few I looked at a couple of years ago still seem to be on the market. Back in a couple of weeks so will see! So sick of a lack of summer here I know that.

I read this article last week and imho is sloppy journalism. It looks like a complete re write of an article in Sunday Times a number of months ago (detailed on the forum too).  Not sure if the journalist involved has actually been to Kalkan...doesn''t sound like it.  Kalkan is still nothing like he portrays. I just wish writers would look out the facts for themselves rather than just quoting others...
