Not a good thing in my opinion, you get more lira to the pound than you do euro so the cost of living in Turkey will be more expensive.

The reason Turkey is the number 1 holiday destination this year is because of the euro, all the people that flock to Spain are now going to Turkey as it''s cheaper, could affect the Tourism industry which Turkey relies on.

I also know that a lot of Turkish people I have spoken to don''t want to be part of Europe.

I agree.
Lets face it here in the UK, we have a creeping nanny state that seems to eminate from Brussels.

I run a small business and am finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with all the petty legislation and red tape that has been introduced in recent years. It just eats into the business''s profits to the point where it is almost not worth the effort.

I wonder, how many Turkish people actually realise how membership of the EU will affect them in their daily lives.

Many of them realise only too well that the additional Health and Safety requirements alone would put a lot of them out of business. Let alone the working hours directives, minimum pay legislatiion, maternity & paternity rights, equal opportunites & diversity rules... the list goes on.

They want the EU like a hole in the head.

Think I would prefer the hole in the head any day to the EU!!!!

I actually think that one of the biggest problems in the UK today is how depressed and miserable people are, and this goes directly to the amount of petty interference there is in our everyday lives.

Turkey STAY OUT, its not worth it!!!

The decision of the Constitutional Court is both important for the democratic process and for the stability of Turkey.  Being visitors to Turkey, as most of us are, it is difficult to see Islam taking over the country albeit that the vast majority of Turks are at least nominally Muslims.  In the 17 years I have been coming to Turkey there has been an obvious move to more liberalism and that hasn''t changed under the AKP.  Does anyone really believe that the 47% of voters who elected the current government did so to get an Islamic state.  No, they did it for the same reasons as parties get elected everywhere namely a track record of higher employment, more stable currency, lower inflation and a better standing in the world at large.  The Constitutional Court has shown that it can curtail any creep of Islam into public life as in the case of the head-scarves in Universities row.
