Tragic,

Im sure all our thoughts are with the families of the loved ones who have lost their lives.

I feel very upset to hear about the loss of life and injured people in Istanbul area, we are due to visit Kalkan in just under two weeks and are due to go on to Istanbul for 4 nights we now feel more then abit worried about the Istanbul visit as this is the second incident in the last couple of weeks can anyone give me any advise on the current situation and wether this looks like being the state of things to come?

I know no one can predict future events but some local insight into whats happening might help.

According to the paper it wasn''t in a tourist area but a residential area of Istanbul so tourists don''t seem to have been the target.

It is terrible however and I will never understand how anyone can do this to others human beings, whatever their cause.

Jaquiviva,
unless the Foriegn Office advise against travel to Istanbul, it''s as safe as any major city in the world. There was a bomb in Spain a week or so ago, and whilst that mercifully didn''t result in loss of life, people are still flocking to Spain in their droves, despite the fact that ETA have said it was a warning.
There is political unrest throughout the world and you''ve just as much chance of being caught up in that in the UK, as in Turkey.

Our thoughts must be with the families who have lost loved ones and the injured right now. Whilst tourists don''t appear to have been the target here, it will undoubtedly affect the tourist industry - something the Turks excel in and are rightly proud of. What an utterly unforgivable way to make a political point
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

There were two bombs let off in a reidential area. The first relatively small, which caused some injuries and attracted people to help, the second much larger causing further chaos. 15 killed and 150+ injuries. The media don''t know who is responsible but they believe it is a terrrorist attack.
