I''ve just been taking pics at the local vets open day (oooops sorry not supposed to mention business) anyway the parasite chap was telling me that mozzies pass to dogs a heart worm which if untreated is fatal. Dogs from the UK going to Med Countries etc are more vulnerable than local dogs which do build up or develop some immunity but it can lead to some disability.
So if you are taking your mutt to France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, etc do have a word with your vet.
Dogs in the UK can also get a different type of heartworm disease - still fatal - from eating snails & slugs - yes that''s what he said, also from foxes. Areas of infestation include West Wales, Devon & London.
Now don''t shoot me I''m only passing on what he said. The heart worm is now treatable.
If you want what the symptoms are let me know and I can find out off Les the bug man.
