Its going to be my first time in Kalkan....
« on: July 02, 2008, 10:09:45 PM »
Hello all,
I am travelling to Kalkan in just over 2 weeks, and I''m very excited.  Everyone I''ve been in contact with planning this holiday has been brilliant and you guys are giving me so much information, I feel like i''ve already been to Kalkan!! I do have a few silly questions though if any one can help:

What are the general opening times for the supermarkets?  My holiday last year they kept closing them really early so we would have to take our shopping to dinner with us.

I understand we will need to get a visa when we arrive, how does this work any advise?
Can anyone suggest things we really must not miss out on? Resturants? Day trips etc? Theres going to be 3 of us for the first week and 6 of us for the 2nd.
Thanks  Liz

Hi Liz
Don''t worry about the Supermarkets, most of them stay open until midnight, some later than that, and a few like the Yali Supermarket will deliver to you.
When you land at Dalaman you will need to go to the visa desks which are next to passport control. You need to obtain your Visas before you go to the Passport control desks and then onto baggage reclaim. It''s a straightforward hassle free process, but it can take a little while if there are other flights in at the same time.
You will get a lot of info about restaurants and day trips from the other threads on the site. But I''m sure you''ll get some replies here too.
Have fun.

Re the visa, just hand your passport with a £10 note to the clerk, they then put a sticker in it. You then got to the Passport desk who scan your passport and then stamp the sticker. It doesn''t take long but depends how many flights have arrived about the same time. Please remember it must be a £10 note for each person, don''t give them a £20 note thnking it''ll cover 2 people, they may just ask for another £10.

And make sure it is a fairly clean & untorn £10.  And (wrong though it may be, before I offend any one) I am pretty sure that they will not accept Scottish notes.

Day trips - you really should get a dolmus to Patara beach. Kas (the next town along from Kalkan) is also worth a visit.

A boat trip is also a must; get one that goes to the sunken city of Keklova.

There are too many brilliant retaurants to recommend any particular one but here''s a few of our favourites: Olive Garden; Coast; Daphne; Trio; Kaya.

But everyone will tell you differently, and the fun part is finding out for yourself!
