travellers cheques

my wife and i are travelling to kalkan in august and usually take the bulk of our
money in travellers cheques. can anybody tell me are these easy to exchange
and would it be better to take them in lira or sterling, also are they accepted
in shops and restaurants

I''ve never had any trouble exchanging travellers cheques in Kalkan, although the post office stopped doing this about 3 years ago (maybe now they have had a refurb this year they will start this service again).  I now tend to change either at Abi Tour or at Infinity Jewellers next door.  However, I know that there are others out there that will also change them.  I do find this the safest way of taking money abroad still, though some of the EK members use a Nationwide card which seems a pretty good deal.

PS  I checked with Linda at Abi recently to see if this was still the case due to a couple of post I have read re difficulty in exchanging travellers cheques in Kalkan and she confirmed that it was still quite easy to do this.
