Public Liability Insurance
« on: June 13, 2007, 10:57:21 PM »
Butser

You asked for details of a suitable broker for Public Liability Insurance. The broker I use is english, tel. no.01608 811310. and ask for Colin Panes.I put quite a bit of business with him so not sure if it was a one off. If you have any problems let me know He also does our building insurance. I feel safer with a Lloyds underwriter rather than a local one! As I said previously you cannot ask guests to rely on their travel insurance. If you are found to be liable the travel insurers will come knocking on your door!

Hi Philip

Thanks for the info the agents in Kalkan have always insisted that Public Liability is not available in Turkey.

I hope Colin can help me as I will certainly sleep better at night.

Thanks again for the info.  Buster

Thanks for the post. Got back last week and got some funny looks when we mentioned public liability insurance to the broker. We will give your contact a call and sort it back in the UK.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

Hi Buster and Brooksie

When we purchased our apartment in the Emir development we looked into public liability insurance for guests maids etc together with rebuilding and contents insurance.  There seemed to be very few companies in the UK offering insurance for holiday homes as Turkey not in EU.

We were referred to brokers CCMH tel 01943876515 and they organised a policy through Hiscox.  All very straight forward even covers accidental damage and flights if you need to visit property if there is a problem.

Earthquake insurance is excluded and we have a separate Turkish Government policy + Local policy as the State policy does not cover the full rebuilding cost.

Colin

Afternoon all.

We are now settled into our lovely new apartment in Kalkan and have taken out the standard insurances arranged with Anadolu but as we are thinking of renting out are a bit concerned about Public Liability Insurance.  Has anyone got any updates on the info posted last year?  Thanks

Hi Newbies, try the UK firm Intasure (0845 111 680 or www.itansure.com) who are excellent and will arrange contents, buildings and include £5million of public liability at no extra charge. You can arrange it all on the phone within 5 minutes.

Intasure can now also arrange the DASK earthquake insurance for you when you insure with them. If you don''t have the DASK any other insurer knocks off what you would have been paid via the DASK and will only pay what''s left of your claim in the event of an earthquake.

We used to buy insurance for public liability in Kalkan but the maximum cover we could get was only £50,000 so this year we moved to Intasure (see above posts).  We decided not to get DASK cover through them as it was cheaper to get that in Kalkan, we bought it through our bank as we have an account in Kalkan.  As I understand it there is a set price for DASK insurance depending on the size of the house and the bank did not charge a fee for getting the insurance, Intasure charges £10 admin I seem to remember and at the time couldn''t give me an accurate quote for the DASK, you can get the DASK from other sources in Kalkan but many do charge an admin fee.
