Do you need to be a resident to have the telephone installed?

John
I''m coming back out in a few weeks, will I be able to sort a phone line out in a week?

It takes at least a month. You will need help the man in the office behind the ppt speaks no English then the forms go off to Kumlaca then come back, they will then connect the line at the exchange but not in your property you have to arrange that yourself, this is the everything going to plan version if there is no line or not enough wires it will take twice as long

How much does it cost for a phone and ADSL please? We have been trying to work out if its worth it or not as I assume there is a rental to pay even if you make no calls similar to BT.

I spoke to Patara Prince who told me my property has a line but its not connected (so I assume I have to go via the PTT for this)

As I understand it - you can only have a telephone line in the name of a resident - so if you are not a resident - you need to have a turkish friend to put it in their name (this is what we do) and the bills etc are in their name and we just pay it - same price as Feds for broadband.  Our turkish friend arranged it all - but we had to lay the wire from the telephone pole to our house ourselves and then they come and simply connect it - you will deffo need turkish speaking help with this...there was a thread about this previously I believe...

Cheers!

Hi everyone

Thank you for the info; I do a lot of work when I''m in Kalkan via the internet and I''m currently relying on a friend''s wireless connection; if he is not around I cannot do any work so I need my own internet access via telephone. Was hoping I could do this without residency so I could keep an easy paper trail for tax and work expense purposes; looks like I will have to do this via Turkish friend.

I looked into using o2 mobile phone as modem but the thought of paying £6 per 1 MB download gave me the heeby jeebies as this connection would never be covered by customer charge out rates.

Here for 6 weeks so hopefully will get it sorted before I leave.

Will keep you updated on progress.

Perhaps not ideal but don''t forget there are internet cafe''s in Kalkan, the newest is close to Doh Doh restaurant and owned and run by Emre. The lines are pretty reliable, secure and it''s cheap, probably cheaper than trying to organise it yourself for such a short period.
