This one’s for you David!

Back by special request!

I hadn’t planned to vlog this trip but having been approached by a loyal and long standing fan of my work 8) ??? ;) :- :P I thought a short vlog wouldn’t hurt!

So this year Thelma and Louise have become Charlie’s Angels...according to several restaurant greeters! We are now 3!

We arrived late on Thu night having flown TA Birmingham- Istanbul, Istanbul- Dalaman.  The flights were good - bit of an issue at Ist as a member if airport staff directed us straight from the plane into the international departure lounge rather than via immigration and onto domestic departures.....after alot of walking and asking people what we should do there was a great deal of panic and photographing of our boarding cards before security were summoned to escort us to the right place! Good job we had 3 hours to spare!

We’re staying at our normal location just in a bigger apartment - near Anka supermarket.  First morning was a trip to Nur Hakan for a hammam and massage! Great way to start the trip...we have never felt so clean..... afternoon by the pool where we caught up with old friends over a very nice gin we picked up in the airport, followed by a trip into town to say hello to familiar faces and have dinner at Trio

We had complimentary mezze followed by tropical chicken for 2 of us and chicken Kavurma for the other.  My tropical chicken was delicious! We has a cocktail each and total bill was 420tl. A little bit pricey but not horrendous.  It was very busy and we felt a bit rushed but would go again.  Chatted with the old Alternatif boys at Sherlock Holmes and booked a tsble for Monday night...looking forward to that

Saturday was a pool day - made the schoolboy error of sitting having breakfast with no sun screen and have a very red nose to show for it!

More later!

Hi Haybo.......just catching up with recent posts and really good to read your holiday report. I'm not sure that I would have the energy to fly out via Istanbul and one flight each way is more than enough. 420tl seems quite reasonable for 3 meals and drinks at Trio.........once you take account of the current exchange rates. Hope that you are having a good holiday and look forward to reading more.

Well that didn't really go as planned!

Having intermittent WiFi and too much fun led to me posting absolutely nothing until now - when I am home!

So - where we ate..

Friday - Trio - as previously described..
Saturday - Belgin's Kitchen - a first for us - very rustic.  i enjoyed my meal of Turkish Meat balls very much, but one of the Angel's lamb wasn't up to much - still a nice experience and pretty reasonable
Sunday - Boat trip so we we were full of Ilkay's beautiful food and so ate at home
Monday - Sherlock Holmes - posted on Friends of Kalkan about this - we had a lovely meal .  I had Apricot chicken and it was really nice.  The others had Steak which was the softest ever and Hermes chicken which was good!  cocktails and G&T's were flowing and our total bill was 476TL.  The boys are working really hard to make a go of it so don't be put off by the theming!
Tuesday - Coast Tapas - we chose this because we were given their card to use as a book mark whilst out on the boat trip!  i really liked it there - the atmosphere was nice.  I had veal cheek - there was so much of it!  we also had a risotto and a chicken dish and had started with a mixed tapas.  Can't recall the bill total but there were at least 6 cocktails on the bill so I suspect it was over 600!
Wednesday - evening boat trip so more food from Ilkay
Thursday - needed a more reasonable evening so we headed to Fener - you can't go wrong!  although as a word of warning, our bill came and was 235TL...which equates to around £31.  The bill kindly shows you a £ price and it quoted that price as being £50.97 so always check what rate it is giving you as that was not good!
Friday - gulet trip to Meis which ended with us having 4 hrs free time in the harbour area so we ate there - the food was expensive and nowhere near as good as we get in Kalkan - think we paid 60 Euro for 3 main courses.
Saturday - last supper at Aubergine - we ate at 8 as we were leaving for airport at 11! I had paremesan chicken - yum!

all in all I still think Kalkan is good value but noticed that alcohol really adds up!

Better get on with some work.......

Thank you!

Here are a few extra bits and bobs from our week

Best new find - Kalkan Suites Coffee Shop - we knew it was there following a recommendation from a friend and left it way too late into our holiday to make our first visit!  We popped in our our way to our evening boat trip .  What a beautifully decorated space!  The Frapacinno's are amazing - as are the home made gluten free, some vegan cakes.  Delish!

Best Cocktail - this is my view only...I particularly enjoyed a French Martini in Cafe Leon and a Rose Martini in Aubergine

Best Day out- love, love, love Kalkan based boat trips, but the trip from Kas to Meis on Senin3 was just lovely.  The boat sails across to Meis, does immigration and then you sail around to coves including the Blue Caves.  you end up back in Meis harbour for the evening to get yourselves dinner before sailing back around 9:30 - 10.    it appears a bit more expensive- i think we paid £50 pp but you get transport to and from Kas, and you are out much longer.  Dinner in Meis is not included
best meal - well that changes everytime I think about it, but I'm going for the Tropical Chicken in Trio

Thank you for taking the time to write. Agree about the Meis trip - definitely the best way to mod it
