I know I dont normally post restaurant recommendations but just had a lovely meal at Extinct, a very fresh Meze and filleted sea bass - not only was the food lovely the price was good also!

Certainly one to try....... say hello to "Tom Jones" from me!  :D

I hope you are having a scrummy time - I understand the weather is hot hot HOT  8)

Extinct is cetainly worth recommending, we have had our best and cheapest fish meals in Kalkan there. The owner is very friendly and really trying hard to make a go of what is a pretty poor location (for a fish restaurant anyway).

We went to eat at Oz Adana one night, but it was full. We ended up sitting in Extinct, buying half our meal from there and half from next door!

You can try the Deniz down by the beach they have their own boat and it is about the same price as extinct. Regulars will remember him from the Oz Adana. I was talking to him last night he had Guilt head bream (Çupra) Gruper and Snapper on display all fresh, it is rare that i will name a place but this one is worth a visit

hi all, Is there any chance of producing a map with all the restaurants on? I try to visualise them but sometimes struggle. I''m guessing this one is round the corner from Kaya? I''m sure a good food map would be very useful

Those who know Extinct...does it offer meat dishes too? I''m more a fish person than my BH so we always go somewhere where the meat dishes are good too. Following on from another thread, Jon....was the Bass frozen??? :o
Not that I''m bothered, I''ve always found the fish dishes in Kalkan delicious and wouldn''t even think to ask...but others may want to know?
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

We had lunch at Deniz on the harbour today. It is one of the best value restaurants in Kalkan. The fresh (not frozen) sea bream is just 12 lira, and comes with delicious chips and salad. They do a small meze plate, plenty for two for only 5 lira and large meze plate for 10 lira. Many local people eat here, and their customers are as good value as the food. Recently had long literary discussions with a Turkish customer and ended up swapping books and philosophy, so you get great food, good service and stimulating conversation

Have to agree a map is definitely needed.   This year will be my 3rd visit (staying at pasha, having previously stayed at Kulube and Asfiya - which were both wonderful!!) but i still get confused as to where everything is

Hi
Kalkan is hardly the size of Istanbul and surely anyone could walk it in a hour or so and find most places.

As John of The Feds says that''s half the fun of tripping over places when you are looking for somewhere else.

Of course there is also the option of asking people and they might even tell you  :D

Extinct doesn''t have any meat dishes. This nearly caused a problem last year when we were in Kalkan with some friends one of whom didn''t eat fish but the owner suggested she ordered something from the restaurant next door (basic but good Turkish/pizza restaurant). So problem solved and we ate there 3 times over the fortnight.

As far as I know it does serve fresh fish, the menu depends on what was available that day. Mix of locally caught and some that has traveled to get there, the owner explains where it came from - we only eat local, in part because it was better value but mostly because fresher is better.

thanks akantj. We already had Oz Adana down on our list to try this year - as my BH loves kebabs and it was recommended as one of the places to try - so I think we''ll go to Extinct - I''ll have fish and he can have something from Oz Adana. Happy days!!
