Monarch/CAA flights
« on: October 02, 2017, 05:40:50 AM »
My son was due to fly out with Monarch today and return on 9/10. He has managed to book a flight out with another airline. My question is, will his return flight be covered by the CAA arrangement, as his outward flight didn't leave the UK?
Thanks,
pw

Think the only answer to your question is contact the CAA,  they have issued guidelines re this sort of problem

PW

I was just speaking to a travel agent and, as I had seen your post, asked about this

The rules cover bringing back people who are currently (that is, at the time the administration is declared) abroad.
All the remaining flights are cancelled, this includes the return legs of flights that have not gone out yet. She said the only way the flight home could still be valid was if it was booked separately as a one way flight.

Sadly it looks like, unless you son can get written confirmation that his return ticket is valid he needs to book a return flight.

Really sorry to hear of Monarch's demise. I hope that not too many people are affected and that, for those who are, that you are able to source alternative flights.

If your son paid by credit card he should be able to claim it back on that ..atoll don't cover flights only packages so that's out..and insurance will only pay out if you bought extra cover for airlines going bust!
It is disgusting that up until Saturday Monarch were taking bookings for flights although The transport secretary Grayling has said contingency plans had started to be made days ago...
Also on BBC news this morning Steph McGovern(she who specialises in business news?)stated that Monarch were partly in trouble because of attacks in Egypt and Turkey in recent years and flights were hit after the government advised not to go there? Did I miss something ? wasn't that Tunisia?   mmm? you would think that the Beeb with all OUR money would be able to get news right.....just sayin ;)
