'Blocked' turkish bank accounts and the taxman!
« on: January 28, 2017, 12:09:19 PM »
I have just discovered that my sterling bank account at HSBC Fethiye has been blocked, apparently by the tax office in Kas.  No explanation has been given and the bank say they were just acting upon instructions received and had no choice.  I was not informed so it has come as quite a surprise.
Ali Tunc deals with my income tax affairs and I am under the impression that my tax affairs are up to date and in order.
I am now awaiting an explanation but in the meantime the situation is causing considerable embarrassment and inconvenience with unpaid bills and dishonoured direct debits, resulting in cut off utilities.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Does anyone know what the reason might be.

Perhaps Ali Tunc should look into it as he sees to your tax affairs.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago.No letter/phone call from the tax office or the bank.I just found that I could not use my card and when I phoned HSBC Fethiye they told me that my account had been frozen by the tax office.I was really shocked as not aware that we owed them anything!
I rushed over to Kas and was told that there had been an amount outstanding for some years! It was something we had actually paid to a third party but obviously never paid to the tax office and we no longer had the paperwork to prove it.Luckily it wasnt a large amount as we had no choice but to pay to the tax office to get our bank account unfrozen.Once you pay it doesnt take too long for the bank to be made aware of it so the situation was resolved within 24 hours.
It was a real shock to find this can happen without any correspondance being sent to us!!Ali Tunc will be able to help you I am sure.
