Advice on visit to Antalya
« on: January 02, 2017, 03:21:09 PM »
Hi folks we are intending to visit Antalya in Feb for a bit of retail therapy. Have found a lovely hotel in Kaleici old town district. Would anyone know if this is a good area for shopping, is there one of the big malls close to hand and approx how far from the main bus station is the old town and can it be reached via public transport. Any advice would be very welcome. Thanks

The bus service in Antalya is first class and all the shopping malls can be reached easily by bus.The old town can also be reached easily from the main bus station.Bus rides are just a couple of lira each and we always found the buses frequent although sometimes crowded.
Have a great time shopping and try to see the museum too,its really worth a visit and has many things found at local sites. The statues are pretty amazing.....

Agree with everything Amber has said - the museum is amazing!  Mark Antalya is a good shopping centre - lots of home shops, which is useful if you have a property in Kalkan!  The old town is beautiful, remember to leave enough time to explore, superb restaurants too.  There are also several shopping centres near the aquarium on both sides of the road - we normally stop there to have a look - handy, as this is close to the coast road back to Kalkan.
Enjoy!

All buses & the tram now run with the bus pass ticket systemt purchased from some small Bufe. However you can purchase one on the bus/tram from the driver, it's called a disposal ticket, at 10tl,  the price per journey per person is 1.60th.

We stayed in Antalya in 2001 (we remember this because we watched the 9/11 events on the TV there!), and arranged a day trip with a taxi driver who took us outside Antalya to various historic and non-historic sites.

Have no idea what it would cost now, but it didn't work out silly then - we paid for his lunch with us, which was both enlightening and informative.

Can only say to consider (and plan) something like this may be an option.
