Visit to Kekova - Simena : organised trip or own steam?
« on: September 23, 2016, 12:02:01 AM »
We quite fancy a trip to Kekova this year. I've read the posts and a number of holiday report for a boat trip organised from Kalkan (via Ucagiz) . However i read a great holiday report very recently about a self drive trip to Ucagiz where they were collected by boat from a pansiyon in Kalaykoy (sorry if all my place names are wrong but you get the gist).
I'd love to stay overnight in Kalaykoy but perhaps not this year. I'm wondering if it's equally viable to just get a taxi to and from Ucagiz and when there organise a private boat trip direct. I've read a number of reviews for Kalaykoy accommodation who have arranged boat trips locally.
Perhaps it's overly expensive to do it this way?
Any thoughts from anyone who has done similar?

We did this trip independantly in June (but tacked onto other travels so we already had the car)  We drove to Üçağız stayed one night in Theimussa pansyion and then left the car there and took a boat trip to  Kaleköy and stayed in a beautiful pansyion called Ankh.  It's easily done & we just turned up & booked on the day (we were only going to call in to Üçağız for a day!). If you go for the day & drive  when you get to Üçağız make sure you drive right into the town as you will get folks trying to stop you & park in their spots so they can then encourage you to take their or their friends boat trips (not a bad thing) but you will have plenty of choice right in the main part & you can wander around & choose at your leisure.  Not done the trip from Kalkan but they drive you down then the boat trip is organised for you.  Maybe do an organised trip first so you get the layout & do an independent one next time?!

This is a trip I really want to do and promised myself we would do it this year.  I'm back again early/mid October, but it looks like the trips stop running at the end of September.  So, I suppose it depends when you're there and if they're not running this trip, that may help to make up your mind!

Sezkalkan - do you know if its just organised trips from Kalkan agents that stop at the end of September or also direct from boats at Ucagiz/Simena too?

Also just wondering if anyone can give me an idea on how far (driving time) it is from kalkan to Ucagiz?

thanks again
Alison

AlisonD I think it must be organised trips from Kalkan as I emailed DefineTours to ask them about the trip and he said if they can get enough people interested he would arrange one.  It may well be that you might find another agent who will go?

We're not really interested in doing the whole car thing and going on our own - we'd rather go with an organised tour!

Good luck  ;)

AlisonD,

I would imagine there are boats going out in October from Kekova but couldn't say for certain as I go on a private trip the hotel arranges.  There are definitely other boats out but possibly only with Turkish and/or German tour guide commentary.

But driving with the new road/bypass of Kas town from Kalkan is 1hr 10min.

Try Volume Travel. Kalkan to Ucagiz is about 1 hour 15mins.

We had a fabulous stay at Sahil Pension Kekova. It did cost about £100 for the night but the location was really worth it. The web site is www.sahilpension.com info@sahilpension.com.lLovely lovely place.
