Walking on Lycian Way
« on: April 07, 2008, 12:52:54 PM »
As regular walkers with a group of friends in Kalkan, we are arranging a walk from Phellos to Gokceoren for Sunday 13th April 2008.
The walk is approx 15kms and will take approx 6hrs. Only cost will be for the mini-bus which will leave Kalkan at 8.00am.
Water and a packed lunch will be required.
If you are on holiday at this time and fancy a nice walk on the Lycian Way, please let us know, as there are limited seats left on the bus.

sorry wont be there but what a great idea, it is nice to walk with others, and safer too if the going is a bit rough.

Would  be really interested in how you get along. Have been reading about it recently, and it featured in the Sunday Times yesterday. We''ll be coming over late May but might be a bit hot by then? I''m sure it''s a good autumn / spring venture. Please feedback when you get back.

Sorry folks made a mistake with the date for the walk. Should have been 20th April, so hope some of you will be able to come.
Boots or shoes with good soles are necessary, as the terrain is quite rocky. Not too much climbing on this walk and we only go as fast as the slowest walker. The 6hrs is only a slowish pace and gives people the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and take photos.
We have enjoyed walking with the group over the winter and have done walks which we otherwise would have been unable to do, as transport is a problem on linear walks.
We stop walking in May as it gets too hot, ( we wouldn''t want to disturb the big cats during mating season!!) and restart in October.
As we said the only cost is for the transport, so the more people the cheaper it is.

Hi M&M long time no see, I would love to join you especially if there aren''t too many hills!!! I will contact you in the next couple of days. Its the only way to see Turkey, and the spring flowers and cherry blossom will be fantastic at this time of year. ;D

I am glad you and Lynn will join them, it will mean we will then have mutual friends in common! Enjoy yourselves. Don''t forget to take some photos and to post them, so we can all enjoy your walk and the scenery.

Sorry we''re going to miss this one as we only arrive on the 25th April.  However we will then be in Kalkan for 2 months so would be really interested in another walk or two.  Probably better earlier than later to avoid very hot weather as mentioned earlier.  If anyone is interested I''m happy to do some of the organising but would welcome some help from an ''old hand''.  Is anyone interested?

Hi M & M.

Afraid I''m not going to be able to join you on this walk after all. :(

Very disappointing but I''ll be in touch again when we next come over.

Enjoy !

Peter

Hi M and M, I like the idea of ''the walk''. Not over till June 13th though; haven''t actually been there for that month before. Will it be too hot to consider something like that then? And are you planning any later in the year anyway?  Thanks    Bill

Hi Folks, just back to sunny Bolton and have literally just walked through the door.
Although I was really looking forward to this walk I almost chickened out due to a combination of the remnants of blisters from a recent outing in Scotland and fear of how I would manage a 15K walk in hot conditions. In the event I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did.
As John says the conditions ranged from easy in parts to pretty tough coming down the rock strewn paths in the latter stages but everyone was very supportive and we all came through it unscathed.
Many thanks to M&M for organising the day and thanks to all for your company and conversation.
It was great to put faces to some of the names on the Forum and I cant wait to get back to Kalkan and do it all again.M&M I will be in touch in advance of my next visit to see if something can be arranged -even in July !

We are coming out on the 22nd of May, if any of you fancy doing a walk, my Son and I would love to tag along. Hopefully it it''s not too hot by then.
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.
