Where REGISTER for Council Tax?

Hello again

I went to pay my Council Tax today at the Kalkan Belediyesi and was told that I my property hadn't been resisted yet! A Turkish gentleman kindly translated for me. He said that the estate agent i purchased through should have registered us for Council Tax at the time of purchase.  In fact, I paid the estate agent a separate fee for this. I am taking the matter up with the estate agent who are being very unhelpful. In he meantime I need to pay this before the deadline. Does anyone know where/how I register?

Oh 😧 I assume you bought a brand new property?
We purchased a '2nd hand property' in September last year and nobody had mentioned anything to us about council tax. When we were there in April, our neighbour mentioned it, but we didn't have our TAPU with us.  We will have to pay ours now when we are there in July but I assume we wont have to 'register' the property as its not brand new?!

No, it's not new, it's a resale. As I understand it, every time there is a change of ownership, the new owners must register for council tax

You should be able to register for council tax in the office prior to the payment office but you will need your original Tapu and passport and tax number for each person listed on the tapu.

I remember when we went in to the Kalkan office for the first time we had to leave a copy of our TAPU and passports and then come back 2 days later when we paid our first payment.

Don't worry about paying it before the end of May deadline.  You can pay anytime and will have to pay in addition to the yearly charge small fine, but it really is small and not worth worrying about.  Good luck, hope you get the property registered.
