Warning Fake Fakes
« on: February 12, 2016, 09:46:25 AM »
Remember the carbuncle of a stall at the top of the old town.

Against my advice, given on the grounds that Kalkan would be better off without this eyesore and the not very pleasant sellers manning it, my daughter bought a Michael Kors bag from them at what seemed to be a bargain price. Last week despite only being used a few times the leather where the handle attaches split.

My wife took it to be repaired and was told the leather was in fact "blotting paper and plastic with added smell of leather"  and could not be repaired. Needless to say my daughter is outraged and cannot believe that the seller was in fact as dodgy as he sounded.

So beware if you find yourself thinking of buying anything from this stall, that Genuine Fake might turn out to be a Fake Fake.

Agree the stall in question is  such an eye sore  and I would be as happy as Larry if it went away , however you do have to take into consideration  everyone knows  and it is blatantly obviouse   they sell crap  compared to  the shall we say "good fakes"  so you takes your chances ,  and we must not forget   everyone is entitled to earn a living !

We agreed a price for a canvass holdall(pretty much what he wanted) and said we would be back the following night which we did..the cheeky blighter then said it was three times what we agreed when we said no he told us we were " time wasters tourist"and "I not sell this bag to English" I told him stick your bag up your ****.... We got a similar one in the old town clothes shop (by café del mar) who thought I was a lovely tourist! :-*
People Of Britain.. When your missus asks "Does my bum look big in this? Never say "Dunno your blocking the light."... just sayin ????

When the price is too good to be true, it is a fake fake!  I have many bags bought from 2 different shops in Kalkan over a period of several years.  Never had a single problem but the price was much higher than the stall you are talking about!  It is a pity that reputable Turkish business owners in Kalkan don't protest to the municipality about that ugly stall.  It doesn't add to Kalkan's reputation.

My daughter bought some fake fake ugg slippers a couple of years ago and was very pleased with them. I on the other hand think the stall is a complete eyesore and find the hard sell people really annoying......although, yes, everyone is entitled to earn a living.....just wish they'd do it elsewhere. On the other hand my beloved 'Mulberry' bag from BSG that I have used everyday for the last 4 winters is still going strong and is just as nice as ever.......with a lovely little £4 repair to the zip!

The Thursday market stalls are fake fakes.  Indeed, they are no better than "the Blight" on the landscape.  But let us not forget that many of the sellers in town offer genuine leather goods and it is my experience that they will bargain quite a bit (if you've gotten a price for the same bag from another seller).  Turkey makes very good leather products, even a high end Italian manufacturer confirmed that to me.  But of course, buyer beware!  You get what you pay for.

Disagree chunky, how could you call a good quality leather bag that's seen years of service tat? And that's just one example. Yes, you get what you pay for!
