Alcohol Prices
« on: May 05, 2015, 10:12:54 AM »
Ha!   I knew that would get your attention!!!

With the season on us now we need some hardy soul or souls willing to carry out extensive research into prices of beer /wine etc  in bars and restaurants ..I know this is a dangerous mission fraut with pitfalls ,Namely dribbling down your chin, telling everyone "I lub you" and "yoo are my bestest friend" and dancing in gangnam style to all records regardless of tune. But I'm sure you could cope with such perils ...your country needs you
good luck

I think there's something running in the message box on KTLN about beer/wine prices...perhaps the same people who posted on there might indulge us with their research findings...?

I'll do the dribbling & talking gibberish but forget the dancing. I'll post some prices I find on Saturday sometime.

Whilst we were there in March/April, we were charged 50 TL for a bottle of house red at a well known restaurant (not going to name it) on the harbour which we later found in Yali Supermarket for 10.95 TL. It was an okay ('ish) wine but cetainly not 50 lira's worth. I have no problem with any establishment making a decent mark-up, but that I have to say, angered me, it was actually the cheapest bottle that Yali sold which I believe smacked of greed.
It is worth noting prices of wine in the shops and asking what wines the restaurants are serving as their house and if need be 'voting with your feet'!
I've always believed that if a restaurant was worth its salt it would serve a decent house wine.

Efes is being sold from 8.50tl up to 10tl, may be more in some places.  Not too sure about the wine prices.

For Rose wine lovers - nice bottle of Maki Rose at a Gusto for 35TL. Cheapest glass of rose so far - Yelkin Bistro - 8.50TL, most expensive - Lal is 17 TL a glass at Aubergine, Doluca 15TL a glass in Yali Bar., Black and Gold house - 10TL less 15% discount for VIP members. Still all cheaper than UK. I plan to research Merkez tonight. Can I claim expenses for all this?

Efes around 10 lira in most places.  Bottle of house wine (very drinkable) in Aubergine 35TL which we thought was excellent value.  Actually from memory Aubergine had the cheapest house wine of any restaurant we visited. And at a rate of just over 4 lira to the pound we're talking about £9 - superb value in any restaurant.  We thought prices for food and drink excellent this year.

As noted in a separate topic, in Merkez house wine is 8TL, Large beer 9TL. Great value given the location and quality of the new bar.

I've tried searching on Facebook but can't find it, there seems to be more than one page for Merkez, does anyone have a link?

Philb1963,  Just trying to work out where Alin is - did you mean Akin?  If so that is good to know as it is one of our favourite places

yes I think philb1963 means Akin - unless there's a new restaurant we aren't aware of :)
I expect there will be a bit of a rise in prices to reflect the strength of sterling against TL - it usually happens. But 12.5tl seems a bit steep..?

Don't mind paying a bit more when the £ is flying ..but there are those that keep the prices up when the £ drops back quite significantly......i avoid those places >:(  >:D
