£50 notes are common in Kalkan, I don't know whether they are printing them! but when I drew some sterling out of my YapiKredi sterling account it was in nice new fifty pound notes!!

Exchange rate going down now, in Kalkan, at around 4TL to pound at the Banks.

Cheers

Thanks, Charlie. We were a bit worried about Is Bank. Already knew it doesnt accept £10 notes and think I have posted on here to that effect, so wondered if £50 notes fell into the same category. We prefer to exchange there as its always the best rate in Kalkan...IMO....so we'll look to get rid of as many of the £50 notes as possible before we get there and keep some for sterling spends in town. Ok, so 4TL to £ at the banks is still good...hoping it wont fall much further in the next couple of weeks...selfishly. Have the prices dropped accordingly....?
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Just for info, I ordered some lira just now from Sainsbury's for collection up to 30 days time and pay then and the rate was fixed at 3.8747(up from 3.8670 for flashing the Nectar Card). Just to save changing any as soon as we get there. Normally we get it changed up in the jewellers out there- which can work out a very poor exchange rate, lol!!!

Only 3 weeks next Friday.....!

They probably like £50 notes as it avoids overstuffing the mattress....

Hi Annie,

There are a few banks........( we use Ziratt ) that you can exchange currency. This will give you the highest rate, commision free.If you change in the banks ( you do not need a bank account ) you must have your passport with you. At the moment, this will give you a rate of around 4.05 tl to £ 1.00 at the bank.

There are various places in town to change currency, commision free ( non banks ) and the rate will drop to below 4.00,but still not bad at around 3.95 ish.

The ptt (post office ) rate seems good but they charge commission..........so this is not the good deal that it first may appear.

Either way, iyou will do better in Kalkan than the uk,wherever you change it...bank or other,so my advice is take just what you need to get you by then change up a larger amount in Kalkan.

If you arrive on Friday 19th,remember the banks will be closed at the weekend and will re open on Monday

Have a fabulous time.

KTLN is showing 2.21 to the £. You usually get a much better rate in Kalkan.

Hi Kalkan Regular....I think you may mean 4.21 tl to £ 1.00 I agree that the best rate is to change in Kalkan, not uk.

The ptt charge commission. The best rate is to change in the bank...Ziratt is our choice as not as busy as Deniz. You don't need an account. The process is simple.......
1/ make sure you have your passport with you
2/ enter the bank
3/get a ticket on entry and wait your turn
4/Go up to the counter, show your passport, say you want "X" amount of stirling changed..........and BINGO...you get the best rate, commision free

Ziratt is to be found directly opposite where the Thursday market is

We got 4.2 from the Is Bank ATM exchange. Please remember this machine does not accept anything other than £20 notes

I have a photo taken at one of the bars on the main drag, it was taken two years ago and in the background is a board displaying the exchange rate. It was 2.30TL to the £....!
