Sentimental things you take to Kalkan.
« on: August 20, 2014, 03:29:46 PM »
Just a bit of nonsense, wondered what favourite item you take year after year to Kalkan. Noticed in some previous posts some members have mentioned shirts and dresses they've taken for years. Mine is my much loved and travelled suitcase. I bought it in Woollies for my first holiday abroad to Spain with my then boyfriend in 1978 at the age of eighteen, yes do the maths ha ha. Every holiday it's been a trusty servant. Looks old fashioned or what I call vintage as it's rather large but as it's so much lighter than the modern ones he'll be coming this year again. My first trip Dad made me stick my initials on it with coloured insulating tape so it would  be easily recognisable. The initials are still on it even though I've had two other surnames since, how sentimental am I  ::) §o if you ever see a huge tan suitcase with a big AM on the sides in Dalaman airport you know it's me. Have to get him from the attic soon only twelve sleeps to go. So come on  confess your sentimental travel secrets and make me feel less daft.

Brownie points aplenty BL :P
I think I've mentioned before some of my clothes have been coming to Kalkan with me for about 10 years but I'm not particularly sentimental about them. A suitcase that's lasted as long as yours has clara 50 must have cost a few bob back in 1978..?
I've had the same evening bag for about 10 years but its more that I havent found anything else quite as good to replace it as opposed to not being able to part with it...
We have taken the same pack of playing cards for about 15 years and I do believe, until I checked it before our June trip this year, our first aid kit had tablets that may have travelled with us by default for over 20 years :o :o
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Nice one BL. K4E I only paid a couple of quid for it from Woolworths after saving up my first couple of wages. Must be made from a good quality vinyl or just been lucky with the handlers haha. Hope I'm not speaking too soon, that would be just my luck. Yours sounds like my first aid kit, comes down with the case every year surprised if the plasters even stick now should really invest in some new ones.

We take 'Mr Ted' with us. It's our youngests first teddy bear and he has travelled all over the world. He prefers Kalkan to anywhere else, so that's why we keep having to come back  ;D

Ditto the coffee, plus my ten year old white cropped Laura Ashley white trousers - I love them, although I think they have seen better days!  My husband would say his yellow t-shirt, but that went in the bin years ago - unfortunately I didn't like it! ;D
