You may be right -, we dont know Kalkan pre 5 years ago but hell we still love love love the place  :o I also find it strange you quote in a previous post that your villa is fully booked until end of September - Kalkan must still have plenty of appeal  ???

Sorry to hear you are somewhat disallusioned with present day Kalkan. We have seen changes over the last seven years albeit some subtle. I loved it when we first went and sure we'll love it this year. I think if it went too far Marmaris type resort we would move on but unfortunately we can't stop the clock just as in all aspects of life so I suppose we have to just try and embrace any changes. I hope it doesn't eventually lose it's unique identity that all we old regulars spend our hard earned dosh to relish. Personally I can't wait to visit in eight weeks time especially after the catastrophic winter me and my BH have endured. Hope you don't give up on the place Chunky after all the lovely memories I'm sure you have, after all it's the people that love the place help to make it what it is.

We've only been visiting Kalkan over more recent years.  We first visited in August 2012, then again in June 2013 and most recently we spent 11 days there earlier this month ... we just fall in love with it more with each visit and have already booked for next year.

Whilst I'm sure that more long-standing visitors to Kalkan have witnessed many changes over the years, for us it's still head and shoulders above many of the more commercialised larger resorts on offer.

Im a bit in the middle here.  Like Chunky we too fell in love with Kalkan many years ago and bought a property. Our children have grown up in this place (they still adore it).  But I too know it has changed and IMHO not for the best however I also agree with Kajfish as I've yet been able to find anywhere to match it.  I guess we just have to accept change, hope there's not a lot more of it and enjoy Kalkan for what it is.  I find we now tend to look out of town some evenings for the quiteness; Islamlar's Trout farms, small restaurants along the Kas road, Patara for example.  Things move on and we also need to move with it - nothing ever stays the same.  Kalkan's setting is as spectacular as ever and over the years we have met many wonderful friends, hopefully that will never change.  Still looking forward to our umpteenth visit next month.  Like all things, it is what we make it.

Charlie has echoed our thoughts exactly, the Kalkan of thirteen years ago has gone but it is still our lovely 'home in the sun', we are so happy there in May and October but our mid summer visit is entirely different, we go into town some evenings but dine out of town more often.  Some things have changed for the better and some the worse but change is inevitable and I have got to the point of we have to go with the flow and accept this.  Still looking forward to arriving in 19 days time though.

The Kalkan we first came across was over 20yrs ago now so we have seen many a change & not all for the better.  We have to remind ourselves that a lot of these changes are due to the  the likes of us, we have a house which we have had for over 10yrs & we are living here at the moment.  Kalkan changes with the seasons obviously, at the present moment it is loud music, scooters & cars all making noise.  Also as there are so many properties for rent there is, in some places, a lot of noise from some guests, they seem to have very little respect for others, loud music, late night/early hours of the morning swimming in the pools, they don't seem to realise that sound travels in & around Kalkan.  Perhaps a few more villa owners who rent out could advise their guests re noise & consideration for others, some of the villas now have 6 or more bedrooms, imagine having to live next door to one of those when it is full of 2/3 families. it's a hot stuffy night  & you just want to get some sleep.

Kalkan still has it's lovely moments otherwise we wouldn't be here, but for some of us it has lost a lot, not sure progress is the word though, plenty of other words could be used.  As already stated the local people are still friendly, lots of newcomers now living/working here, so we have to accept that we either get out or get on with it.  At the present moment it's far too hot to worry about it !!!!!!
