Extension to Building Season?
« on: May 15, 2014, 02:40:33 PM »
Just heard a rumour that building season has been extented by 10 days! Looks like authorities have a death wish on tourism this year.

They were still building up the hill from us last week, the constants mechanical banging was a bit of a pain when sat around the pool.

Believe the final date was yesterday 15th May, from where we are looking up onto the mountain side no building taking place on the outside, maybe some internal work being carried out eg tiling, painting.

I think there was something on KTLN about the extension to building work being granted in order to complete the roads in the old town. Naturally builders will take advantage of this to continue working on private dwellings. But as DRBD says it was only until 15th so not exactly a death wish on tourism but very unfortunate for the early season holidaymakers :(

I have obviously had too much Efes as i am sitting on my terrace watching the cement lorries plus a few with big stones and a couple with sand . I am sure no one would break the rules and carry on building :-\ ::)

K4E. - the 10 day extension is for 10 days after the 15th taking it to 25th May!

I'm pretty sure its a Ministry of Tourism directive that all building work - other than major road schemes (remember the D400..?) - finishes on 15th May. Work can continue inside providing it isn't noisy. I don't think local municipalities have the power to overrule central government on this..? If someone near you is carrying  noisy external building work you can report them to the authorities.

I have not heard of any extension after the original one to the 15th May.  The very noisy building renovation project next door to me seems to have come to an end yesterday.  I believe if you are still being inconvenienced by noisy works, you should complain to the Jandarma (0242 844 3005).  I think they have some people who speak English but it might help to have a Turkish speaker nearby just in case.
