Your 2014 "To Do" List
« on: April 12, 2014, 09:59:25 AM »
Reading Lizilu's holiday report, she talks about ticking things off her list.
Do you have a 2014 "To Do" list? If you do what's on it for this season, or as a newbie, what do want to do most from reading this forum?

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

My 2014 todo list is to get through our three weeks holiday in September without any major dramas. To relax and just take in the supreme wonderfulness? is there such a word but you know what I mean of Kalkan. We are also celebrating a fantastic 3o year friendship with our friends Mor and Dave whilst we're out there.

On our to do list for the next visit (in 17 days time!) is to finally get to Adems Place for a meal.  Every time we come out we say we must go there but haven't as yet.  We know a couple who walk there and get a lift back to Kalkan.  That is our plan too.  If we can find our way there.

I am going to a beach bar even if I go on my own , it's always tomorrow . We have also decided to try as many new restaurants as possible although I know we will still creep back to a few favourites.

Jo, Adem's Place is very easy to find. It's just next to Gurus on the D400. Follow the signs to Kas and you won't go wrong....not sure whether the road is better for pedestrians since it was modernised....?

So what's on your list K4E?
On mine is to chill out....not too difficult and to do a Kekova boat trip.....we did one on our first visit about 10 years ago but it was too hot really in August to enjoy the castle etc.

One of my things on august's 'to do' list is to swim in the sea at Kalkan beach. I've always been so frightened of not being able to get back on shore without launching myself like a beached whale, that I'm ashamed to say I've never had an afternoon on the town beach or a swim in the sea!
Another one is to have a Turkish breakfast at Ada patisserie, just never got around to it last week.
C'mon K4E, like Babs said, your turn!!!  8)

I can tick off both of the things on your list Lizilu! The secret to the beach is shoes.....crocs, jellies or my preferred style "diving" .....none of them very elegant....oh and be brave and stride out/take a run at it....if all else fails, laugh then people will be laughing with you rather than at you!  ;D ;D

Oh Lizilu, the town beach is a lovely day out....we take a cool bag and wine o'clock starts mid afternoon on account of the lifespan of the ice blocks  Babs is right, crocks are a must otherwise you will be the entertainment for the beach. Go for it!
I kinda like brian j p's philosophy, without the Efes :P and generally we do a lot of chilling out, like Babs. But I also have some things that whilst ticked off stay on the list year after year like a turkish bath first day, pedicure, bag shopping, excessive eating and drinking etc. The one thing we definitely want to do is a trip to Patara as its probably three years since we last went and besides, I'm hoping to catch me some of those naked Germans on the beach :o :o so that's definitely on the list for 2014. Been practicing my best German version of "Yellow Submarine" on the off chance....
On my "Must Not Do List" is fall over in Moonlight, get chatting over pre-dinner drinks and somehow miss dinner, pick 4 bags when the limit is 2, use a child's noodle as a swimming aid in the sea, pack too many clothes that I'm sure to be bursting out of by the end of week one.....oh God this list is endless :-[

I'm loving this thread  ;D ;D ;D
We bought some beach/swim  shoes last year and I must admit they were brilliant on the boat trips for the mud bath. Just never thought of them for the town beach, but seeing as I've now said it, and with Babs and K4E's support, I will definitely attempt a relaunch onto the beach...watch this space  ;D
Make sure you don't succumb to the epilady K4E, or you'll be rumbled as an imposter on patara!  ;D
I think OH would be very happy following BrianJP's mantra.  8)

So far on my "To Do List" for May, are to visit Myra, drive over to Bezirgan to see what the village is like, go inside a mosque, try a couple of restaurants we haven't been to yet and to give Kas another chance as we weren't impressed when we went last time. I've never thought about swimming off the beach as I always go in at every stop on the boat trip. On the "Redo List" are, a day out on a Yildiz boat, visit Adem, have a couple of Turkish baths and one with the massage, have at least 3 shaves in the cabin now it's been reprieved and no doubt Janet will want to go to Fethiye again seeing as the 9th "gold" wedding anniversay is approaching, I'm sure each one is different but she assues me the first 10 are all gold.

We wait with baited breath K4E to see if you manage the things in your "not to do list".......I didn't even consider bag shopping, excessive eating and drinking of items on my "to do" list as they are a given!

Oh I'm sure to take a tumble over one of the bollards that will be incorporated into the Moonlight "terrace"...that's probably unavoidable on my "Must Not Do List". The mix of alcohol, the slope and unabashed flirting are usually to blame :-[ :-[
You're right Babs, the bag shopping, over-eating etc are givens, but like you I'm a list person so even my "always do" are on a list just in case they slip my mind >:D.....erm like I could forget bag shopping :P
When the children were young I actually did itineraries for our holidays - seriously! Each day was planned in precise detail - our kids don't call me Monica for nothing ::)
Myra is beautiful Pompeyalbie a good one to have on your "To Do" list - its a full day out but worth it if you like ancient Lycian sites. You can combine it with Kekova if you haven't already been, most of the excursion companies in the village offer this....hmmm might put this on my own "re do" list

I too would like to do a yildiz boat trip but there are only four of us so will it cost loads ? We are going mid June . Do you always need to book ?
We went on a big boat trip with about 30/40 people but you seem to get a group that takes over as though it's their boat .

K4E......Monica is a much kinder name than "control freak" which is how my family refer to me  ::)
Lynne T most of the boats take approx 12 people and we have always found that you can either stick with your group or socialise with others if you prefer.....either way it's a lovely relaxing thing to do.
The Yildiz boats are very popular so I imagine you would need to book bit I'm sure someone will be along to confirm that.

Hi Lynne T,

Booking depends on what time in the season it is & how many of you there are.  For example if my crowd of friends are meeting up our 'Monica' (tips hat to Babs) books with Osman as we leave in Oct for the following May ! =))  But we fill the boat.  On my own I bob down & ask what day can I join the boat, take pot luck on who I meet & mix with and never had a bad day out yet.  Twice weekly boat trips, 4-6 weeks a year for the last 15 years !!!  If you want to be sure to go & know which day it'll be, pop down when they return from day trips & pre-plan.

Went with Osman's brother on Yildiz 3 for first time last year & just as good.  My other favourite is the Sunset boats, same principles for booking.  I'm counting down now, 3 weeks 1 day holiday in 25 sleeps  ;D

P.S. Not expensive you pay per head rather than a 'private trip' but don't know what the prices are this year yet.  Was 45TL end of season last year plus your drinks, water, soft or alcoholic, but tea or coffee as you boarded & with afternoon tea included.

Monica title I see was K4E's moniker not Babs's, sorry.

Lynne T, I suggest you book with Osman online if you want to get on a Yildiz boat..even in June. We were there in June last year and left it until the last week to book and couldn't get on...sadly. Both their boats were full until July. This year it's 60 tl per person and their boats hold 14-16 now after a refit. If you want to hire it for just the four of you the cost this year is 800tl. Both Osman and Adem run a great boat trip and you won't go wrong with either of them. Email osman@yildizboat.com to make a booking.
PS Lucy Lou, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person in the world that gets called Monica  ;D ;D
