anything at all but if you had to choose 1 thing there

First cold Efes at the garage with the swimming pool...on route to Kalkan

impossible to put 1 thing down but managed to reduce it to 3

1st, pulling the blinds open in the morning and seeing mouse and snake island
2nd, getting welcomed by Milley after not seeing her for a few months
3rd, going down town and meeting the usual owners - staff in your favourite shops / restaurants

I'm with you Misty. Plonk yourself down with that first ice cold Efes in the garage and you know you've arrived back to absolute bliss. Ironically I suppose it's also kind of my least fave thing too when we stop there on the way home for the last cold Efes and we know we're on our way home to Wales and back to the daily grind  A close second is the first sit on the balcony with a cold glass of white watching the glorious sunset over the crystal blue sea.

My favourite thing is strolling out for dinner in a nice warm atmosphere.  But then there are the boat trips from the harbour, the beach at Patara, the beach clubs, the market at Fethyie.  Oh dear, it's not possible to have one favourite thing in Kalkan, it's all so great.

Must say that stop at the garage definitely is the best, we know then we are on hoiday with our first drinks, On then to Kalkan and our lovely Meldi hotel for the next 14 days of sheer bliss.......54 dys and counting. will have a little break next week though  on the IOW to see my family. which will be especially good if the weather  stays fine.

Have a great time with the family BarbH. Think the weather looks quite settled over the bank holiday, hope so as we intend to go to our caravan near W-Super-M for a few days, last few weekends we've spent there it was absolutely brass monkeys, definitely not Kalkan gear weather lol.

For me, the moment I step down from the plane and smell and feel the air is when I start to feel that hoiday mood. Then, not that bothered about the drink on the ay as we usually skip it! But the noment we see that sign saying Kalkan that's it.  Once we are settled, it's our first drink at the Moonlight Bar, our first trip tothe Mahal Beach Club for the day and a lunch at Aubergine restaurant with the cool cool fans. Oh YES.

The smiling friendly welcome you get in the shops & restaurants as if you are old friend meeting up again. Lunch at Feners lookin out over the harbour so relaxing.

Oh yes that too Pompeyalbie, and all those lovely hugs and kisses, makes me feel like someone really special. Sometimes wish us Brits could be a little more demonstrative on occasion like the Turkish people, makes you so welcome.

We love our first beach day of the holiday. Getting down there about 10am finding a good spot near fener bar end for lunch and just chilling and swimming until we can't stand the heat! Absolute bliss!

What i look forward to is the first view from the D400 .as you come round the bend looking down upon Kalamar &  Kalkan.....

Have to agree with Chrisbluestar. There is nothing as magical after a long flight and transfer coming around the brow of the D400 and seeing the beautiful, entrancing bay containing the twinkling lights of Kalkan below you. Brings a lump to a man's throat. Also, the first night walking into town and the friendly familiar faces there to greet you all remind one that on this Godforsaken earth there are still tiny pockets of paradise. For now, Kalkan is one of them.

Have to agree- that first sight is just perfect.  We even had a transfer taxi driver who stopped on the brow of the hill at 4am and  announced with great pride - "This is Kalkan" -  that is what makes Turkey so special - the love they have for their own country - who can blame them?!

Have to agree with the previous 3 posts, that 1st glimpse of the bay... in 1988 the D400 was higher and Kalkan smaller but on our drive from Fethiye to Kas when we went round a bend and saw the bay for the 1st time we stopped immediately and took a photo, it was a real Wow moment, we still get that same feeling every time we turn that corner on the brow of the hill..

I actually preferred the old road into Kalkan - the twists and turns after the Kalkan sign and then suddenly there it was in front of you like a photograph...amazing! Actually miss going through Yesilkoy...
My favourite thing is everything...the views from our accommodation, the pool, the warm welcome, that first sundowner, the first evening walking into the village full of anticipation, the first trip to the beach, the first trip to Palm beach, bag shopping , the market, even our first "big" food shop, our first rooftop meal at sunset....I could go on and on

Yep.....pretty much all of the above! 

Last year I was having horrible treatment at the dentist and she said try and relax.....so in my head I put myself in my favourite place.....trouble was it was an agonising decision....my favourite sunbed at Palm Beach or lying at the front of Moby Dick!!

I love the smell of the warm Turkish air.
I love the night sky with its millions of stars.
I love the moon reflecting off the sea.
I love the fairy lights twinkling around the restaurants as you walk out for dinner.
I love the warmth of the welcome from the local people, it always makes me feel happy and relaxed.
 When we first visited kalkan, the shows of affection, the kiss  on each cheek from the waiters etc, used to make my OH freeze and pull away. Eight years on... he almost skips down the Main Street, kissing everyone and looking like he's about to go in for a full on snog! L

My hubby's the same ,now hugs and kisses all around, first night out last year saw so many old friends don't think we'd ever been hugged and kissed as much in such a short space of time,not that I'm complaining mind. Have visions sometimes that we'll forget and still do it at home, think there'd be a few raised eyebrows at my hubby's office
