jumping spiders !!!!! nooooooooooooooo

well after trying the search facility (and thinking i was being good) i have just read about jumping biting spiders & now im scared. please tell me there isnt many of these about !!! i hate spiders x

Michelle, it is a matter of luck if you get bitten or not   The little blighters always make a beeline for my mate, she was quite ill last visit to Kalkan, had to get medication etc.   I always manage to get them before they get me, but you have to be accurate with your "flippen-floppen", otherwise they get a bit cross   They have not had me (yet!!!!!!!!), probably lying in wait for me for my next visit.   Do not let it put you off magical Kalkan, you may not even meet any of them.

Michelle please don't worry! We might have only been to Kalkan twice but in the 4 weeks we have spent there we have never seen these 'jumping biting spiders'. Plenty of ants but that's to be expected in a hot country - and even they didn't bite us!

Don't worry about them they've snacked on our legs in the past but we have lived to tell the tale. If you are unlucky pop into the pharmacy just at the start of the Kalamar road and he'll give you some ointment, works like absolute majic, great for mossie bites too. Don't let it put you off you'll love the place that much you won't give them a second thought.

After many years of visiting Turkey we only have had 1 bite off a Boris between us..it's not knowing what will harm thats causes panic..at home i won't harm a Boris because i know it's only having a wander about and a bit of a hang around...

I've been to Kalkan 5 times over the last 3 years and have not seen any, so don't worry.  I too hate spiders so if there were a lot I would not love the place so much.

Well, we have encountered them unfortunately as my girls and I seem to be bug magnets, but as BL says, one sharp slap with a flippen floppen usually does the trick!!! They have them in Greece too as I once found out to my disgust. I was emptying my suitcase and one escaped. Two weeks later I had a family of stripy jumping spiders lodging in my bedroom. I systematically eradicated the little blighters but I felt like my bedroom was the set of a horror movie for a while!!!! Check your cases before you pack to come home.

Its not the jumping spiders you need to worry about...its the Donkey Wasps...one sting from them and you're in big trouble....

Been to Kalkan umpteen times and really badly bitten by mossies the first time. Since have never encountered anything untoward. Dont think ive ever seen a spider.
