Hello everyone.  This is a fabulous website, and perfect for planning our first visit to Kalkan in late May.  Cannot wait!  Looking forward to: amazing scenery; friendly folk; delicious food; Efes beer; a trip to Saklikent; a day on a boat; Efes beer; relaaaaxing; and lots more (did I mention Efes?)!  Not so much looking forward to the mozzies tho'' - are they bad end May?
Thanks to everyone for an informative (and often entertaining) site!

Hi Rachey - welcome to the forum - I know - we are an informative and entertaining bunch... LOL!!  ;D ;D

Mossies were hardly a problem last year at all - mainly due to the fantastic men in black (oops purple!!) with their ghostbusting machines spraying everywhere and down drains...  Some people also say that it was due to the lack of rain the previous winter..!  So who knows what this May will be like - certainly more rain this winter - meaning more breeding ground - but lets hope the ghostbusters are back in town!!

Enjoy kalkan - and the Kalkan mossie will be sure to bite you - just like the rest of us!!   >:D

Greetings Rachey, Our first visit to Kalkan was in May of 2006, the one thing that really caused us any sort of bother was little black fruit flies, due to the fact that our Hotel was surrounded by Olive Trees !!  Before we go out of an evening, we spray ourselves with Lemon Cologne.  Enjoy the Forum and the Efes in Kalkan, have one for me while you''re there !!

Oh, Rachey, you will get all you are looking forward to and much more on your hols in Kalkan!
Even the mozzies can''t spoil it for you!!

Mr B and i find the following formula works....no perfumes/aftershaves, antihistamines, a bite pen (not the ''pulse'' ones, but ones with fluid in them), lots of bug spray left in apartment just before you go out for the evening, no windows open after dusk.
And this year we will up the anti with the avon ''skin so soft'' thats been advised via this site.
Tried garlic pearls two weeks before and all during hols, but they didnt work (they did in Cyprus!).

Then just relax and enjoy!!!  ;)

simply drench yourself top to toe in skin-so-soft and you''ll be fine. Well it always works for me ;D
